Bad news for the MSB, soccer's popularity continues to grow

The European Championship and the Copa América tournament both came to dramatic ends on Sunday, ushering in even more record-breaking audiences with the final matches.
Spain defeated England in what is now the most-watched non-World Cup soccer telecast in Fox history with 6.4M viewers tuning in. It’s the largest audience ever for a Euro telecast on U.S. English-language TV.
Later in the day, Argentina ousted Colombia in the Copa América final, scoring 6M viewers. That’s also a record for the tournament’s English-language U.S. audience and, after the Euro final, it’s Fox’s second most-watched non-World Cup soccer telecast.

The summer of soccer didn’t just bode well for English-language TV. TelevisaUnivision’s Spanish-language telecast of Copa América final delivered 5.2M viewers across Univision and TUDN. The match window soared to 6.35M viewers, making it the largest Univision audience since the 2014 World Cup final.
Sunday’s England-Spain match delivered 3M viewers, now standing as the most-watched Euro final ever in Spanish-language, up 13% from the previous comparable final.

I played soccer in high school and enjoy playing soccer, but watching soccer blows.
World Cup is an exception. World Cup is pretty awesome

Well yeah.
You have generations at this point with an intentional coordinated media effort to normalize it and even groom the children with a bunch of suburban women teaching their kids it’s ok to play. What did you expect to happen?

It probably helps that these two games were played when there were no other US sports happening.
NBA and NHL playoffs are over. MLB had just gone to All Star break and NFL is in the dead zone. Wimbledon finals were that morning. If you wanted to watch sports this Sunday, that was your option. I watched parts of it and was reminded why soccer sucks.
Also, millions of illegal immigrants passing through the open floodgates these past few years is going to move a LOT of different needles, including their beloved soccer. I'm sure sales of tamales and Nutella are also at record levels but that doesn't mean "Americans" have finally come around to international culinary preferences.

I wouldn't go that far.
But I do have to care who wins. I can't get into an NWSL or MLS game. Or a Premier League game, since I have no connection to the teams or players.

You can literally trace the downfall of American culture and pride to the aggressive push of soccer by the MSM

It was a classic slippery slope. Give them an inch they take a mile.
You try to put them off in a corner and they push it even more.
