I worked with a guy who was on the Reagan detail the day he was shot. Trumps detail was nothing like those guys.

Putting bias aside, it would make sense for the sitting president to get the top guys. I’m guessing it has always been that way.
Of course, I also think some of the guys stay with a president when he’s out of office. I met a retired SS agent who was on Carter’s detail when he was in office and stayed with him until he retired. They were still good friends when I met him.

B team is being to kind. All I saw was a bunch of overweight incompetent women in a panic not knowing wtf to do and the handful of men that were there taking charge. DEI at its finest. All part of the plan.

No shite. There are 5 ex presidents. There aren’t enough SS agents in active duty to give all 5 the same level of protection.

maybe not, but the ones actively running for president should get a bit more than the ones barely alive on hospice.
Bobby Kennedy’s death was supposed to have assured that.
edit: i know Bobby wasn’t a former president. pointing out his assasination changed the way we protected candidates.

He doesn't just get protection as an ex-Pres, he also gets protection as the presumptive Republican nominee.
And the SS can allocate resources based on the individual threat level to the specific protectee. Trump probably gets 100 death threats a day whereas Jimmy Carter, who is barely clinging to life down in Plains Georgia can probably get by with two semi-retired agents and a hospice nurse.
