I’m 30 now and feel like I should be reading the paper while drinking coffee. Should I move?

Moved out of walker years ago for EBR. Sadly it was an upgrade.

I too enjoy the sounds of gunfire and ambulances.

Do any small cities in America have a newspaper anymore? Would think they all went under by now

Plenty of weeklies out there… St Bernard Voice, Plaquemines Gazette…

You see, a thing called "internet" happened 30 years ago, and 90% of the papers closed.

Yep, in small towns where the newspaper is owned by Gannett the paper may have one reporter on staff for news, another for local sports if they are lucky or the sports reporter has to cover an entire region, and the management and editor staff is centralized at a larger regional paper. The paper is printed regionally and shipped back to town and placed in stores for purchase. Some places they don’t ever deliver to your home. If want the paper delivered to your home it is mailed to you.
Most of these smaller papers now largely still exist in Louisiana as the paper of record for local government to publish legal notices, council minutes, agendas, public notices, etc. That is why they will keep the name of the smaller town paper instead of merging it into one larger regional paper.
As far as the life blood of papers in income producing ads, some will still get income from car dealers, people selling houses, grocery store sale ads, etc. although even that market is shrinking with the internet.
At a time people took pride in having a locally owned newspaper, now it is all cut and paste and regional stories from neighboring chain papers that fill the headlines. Now you are lucky to even find a printed copy to line your bird cage or line your table for crawfish.

Except for that horrific stench

Funny, when I lived in EBR it was right next to a sewage treatment facility and it smelled like sewage on the regular. Terrible especially when it rains
Now I’m 8 miles north of the interstate in walker & I’ve never smelled the dump or sewage once
I didn’t know the advocate delivered to walker. $17 per 4 weeks for weekends only though? That’s a bit high

Do not get it delivered. I did for a while. Nd got it everyday for like 15 bucks a month. But the service started getting real bad and I stopped it. I go get one at Murphy now.

Speaking of newspapers, I went to the convenience store this morning after pumping gas to grab a coffee. I overhear someone exclaim "oh there was an attempt on his life?" and looked up and saw a woman looking at the stack of The Advocate newspapers by the counter.
I'm actually kind of curious how a person would've managed to avoid hearing about that until walking into a gas station this morning and glancing at the front page of a newspaper.

Livingston Parish News is published twice a week, but it’s only going to get you through half of a cup. Maybe read John’s Grocery and Stine circulars after that?

I loved Sunday Mornings at my grandparents during LSU football season. I would save the advocate sports page and put them up like posters in my room.
