Early debate was part of the plan to get him out and select another candidate.
They are getting pressure to put Biden out there and show is capable, but the powers in the DNC and DC know he is not. This is part of the plan to continue the pressure on Biden to move out of the way. Each time he gets out there in public after that debate will be additional pressure on the Biden camp to get out after he screws up over and over.
