We are considering the difficult decision of leaving Baton Rouge for the Albuquerque area. Anyone live in the Albuquerque?

But seriously, it's murder rate is less than a third of BRs, and I think the cost of living is reasonable.
It seems like a better place to live.

We could stay in Baton Rouge. Son lives in Albuquerque.
I’m retiring this fall. We could essentially move anywhere. I’d like to live in a similar cost of living economics

I should have taken a left turn there once.

Secondhand info here: My younger sister is an RN and has lived in Albuquerque for probably 15 years or so. She says that she loves the weather but despises basically everything else about it; primarily the people and the infrastructure.

Been there a few days for work. Neat town. Could live there.

My brother has been there for 30 years and loves it. He moved a week after graduating from lsu and never looked back.

Don't do it. I lived in Southern NM for a year and met lots of UNM grads. They all hated ABQ. Apparently the crime is on par with Baton Rouge.
One buddy has his guns stolen from his house during the middle of the day
ETA: I would look into moving to Santa Fe if want northern part of state or Las Cruces.
Cruces is an hour hop up to cloudcroft or 1.5-2 to Ruidoso. Also easy drive on I10 if you want a get away to Tucson or Phoenix

In Louisiana you’re acclimated to seeing ponds, lakes, rivers and plush yards and woods. Remove that from your mind. Only the wealthy have greenery in Albuquerque and the Rio Grande that goes through the city is just a ditch. Mountain range on one side and desert arroyos on the other. No telling how many bodies are dumped there.

The blue meth there is top notch I’ve heard

Think of all of the Breaking Bad and Better Call Saul filming locations you and the wife could go check out daily out there lol

ABQ is not terrible. Parts of it are actually pretty nice. There is, like all cities, some areas that aren't so great. Cost of living is probably about the same as BR. Pretty good health care system, supposed to be a good area to retire to. Decent airport, about mid range price wise. There are definitely worst places to live.

Forgot to add....winters can be very cold and summers can be very hot. Winter seems more extreme to me. A little snow occasionally but usually not much because it is the high desert and there is no moisture to speak of.
