Taking my younger ones to Disney world at the beginning of August. Any tips?

I’m taking my 10 and 12 year old boys. The website and booking system seems quite complex! Any Disney pros or folks with Disney experience have any tips? Thanks!

Just use a Disney centric travel agent. It’s going to be hot as balls as well of course

My only basic tip, don't stress about trying to do every ride/attraction in every park. If you like Disney, it is all great in it's own way so just make the most of whatever things that you can squeeze in. Your boys are a bitter older than my kids were when we last went, but kids also enjoyed a break during the hottest part of the day and going back to the hotel for a swim and then staying at the parks until late night and catching the fireworks.

Genie Plus is the way to go and I think Disney is changing it so you can book 7 days out instead of that morning
Go at rope drop if staying on disney property and you can at least avoid long lines at whatever ride you want to go first
Figure out what rides you want to do and plan your time in park wisely so you are not going back and forth in the parks

If its too hot each park has cool down attractions with no wait.
Carousel of Progress in magic kingdom(also hall of presidents)
The Land in Epcot (also American experience or the Seas)
Then shows in Hollywood studios or Animal Kingdom.
Not the best use of time but they will give you a nice break or even a nap.
Don't try and do it all but do use fast pass or scarce it's called now, it keeps changing.
Bus service sucks, I prefer using Uber or Lyft to get from resort to park. Especially animal Kingdom.
Get them to drop you off at Contemporary resort for magic kingdom and you can skip the Ticket a d transfer center.

Get genie plus and buy individual lightning lanes… you didn’t pay all that money to go sweat in a line…. Just suck it up and pay more money and you will be happier. They say right now you can get away with genie plus in Epcot because test track is down. So you could rope drop Remy then go to frozen, buy guardians. Not many rides after that with long waits
We would use Lyft to if didn’t want wait on bus, only 10$ or so to get back to room.

Disney changes so fast I would agree with the poster who said use a Disney travel agent. There is advice in this thread that was good at one time and is now just out of date and wrong.
There's just no way you're going to be able to learn how to use the new Lightning Lane Multi Pass and Lightning Lane Single Pass systems plus what days to go where, when, etc. in just a few weeks.

To add...there's no way this thread will provide you the info that entire boards would. My suggestion, should you want to tackle this on your won would be join this board and get as active as possible.

Where are you traveling from? If you're within the region don't sweat trying to see everything. It really is an art to navigating and getting the most out of a trip. Personally, I'll jump on a cheap flight and do a park then come back. It isn't that expensive to come back another time and catch what you missed.

My best advice is to watch youtube videos that give tips on how to operate genie plus. And it will be changing in late July so I'd wait and watch one explaining the new version. It will be extremely hot so I wouldn't plan to go from open to close each day. I never put much into where we stay. We aren't in the room much anyway but if I had to recommend a specific resort I'd day pop century. It is reasonably priced (for Disney) and has access to skyliner. We also either budget for food/souvenirs ahead of time or just buy Disney gift cards so we don't go overboard with our spending. With two boys that age you may be spending a good bit on food and snacks!

Youtube videos are going to be your best friend. They are changing the Lightning Lane system in about 2 weeks so you're at somewhat of a disadvantage with that, but at least now you'll be able to plan it advance and remove some of the daily stress. The two most informative Youtubers I've seen are Mammoth Club and EarScouts. Check them both out and they will help more than reading through Disney's website.

Don't go. Eff that place.

I didn’t know the change was going in effect so quickly.., so yeah you’re going to have to watch YouTubers after new system goes into operation… to get the best strategy. Just pay whatever it costs to skip the lines

As others have mentioned, use a Disney Vacation Planner. There is NO cost to you. When I took my daughter back in 2019, our planner actually ended up getting us about $600 back after I let her take over the booking I had already made.

Do your homework and know what’s in which park.
Don’t go in there fighting the Disney mindset, if you do, you’ll be unhappy. Disney is a lot of walking, long days, lines, crowds, not being able to get on certain rides because of wait time, etc. Be happy and go with the Disney flow! Realize you’re in Disney and you have to go in with the Disney mindset. Disney won’t change for you, you have to adapt to it. Throw your cares away and enjoy!
Get reservations for restaurants. Know that you can go dine at hotels too, not just restaurants in parks. The hoop de do review (dinner show) is a lot of fun with kids.

The simplest tip for August is to get in the park as soon as it opens so that you can avoid the crowds, ride a lot of stuff... and then get out of the park for the very crowded middle of the day. Take a nap or relax by the pool for a while, and then go back late in the afternoon, when everyone else's kids are whiny and bratty and tired.
Simply put, stay out of the park during the 11:00 - 4:00 time when it's crowded and hot.

The parks aren’t super crowded in the summer like people remember. August will be scorching hot but the crowds won’t be anywhere close to Spring Break crowds. If you learn how to use lightning lanes you’ll be able to do everything with minimal waits.
Eat Scouts is your best bet for Youtube videos but the process hasn’t started yet.
