Rouse's is one of the better ones out there.

There's a place called Neco's in northern Hancock County. Al.com wouldn't know about them.

3) Foosackly’s
A slightly spicier batter that doesn’t create too much breading certainly makes for a zestier alternative. When paired with arguably the best French fries of the bunch (crispy, classic crinkle-cut) plus a solid piece of square toast (and at a solid price for a box of five tenders), Foosackly’s is a fine choice. Only drawback is the size of their chicken tenders, which can obviously vary but on some days the line between tender and nugget gets more and more blurred. Still, we dig the Foo.

2) Slim Chickens
At their best (and they have quite a track record), their chicken out-clucks the rest of them. The hand-breaded masterpieces, when cooked to perfection, put the “tender” in tenders. If I knew I would get their finest effort every single time, it would take not a single thought. But not even the slimmest of the chickens have a perfect batting average. And the only reason I’m docking a spot here is I personally think the chicken tastes better when tossed in a preferred sauce. With about a dozen locations in Alabama, I see this Arkansas-based chain climbing up the leaderboard in our state sooner rather than later.

quote:

1) Guthrie’s
Tastes like fried chicken. Flat-out, the closest recipe to what grandma might make at Sunday dinner. Golden brown with just the right crunch, the Guthrie’s chicken finger is unmistakable. Tender and delicious, nearly 100% of the time. Guthrie’s, founded in Haleyville in 1965, is now headquartered in Auburn. So for what they may lack in the trophy case compared to their rivals 160 miles away, they have no equal in the chicken finger game. A box of Guthrie’s satisfies all, and when you see a bucket or even a platter of that chicken at a party or tailgate, forget about it. Fried goodness.

I stopped at a Guthries when I was in a jam just south of Fairhope

I was blown away

Like the article said such a perfect little golden brown crunch and steamy hot chicken underneath. It had a mild flavor to it too. The skin was crunchy but thin. Seemed more akin to CFA than Canes.

I completely support them at the number one spot.

I haven't had Guthrie's in 40 years but it was outstanding back then. The original.

Missing
Also missing: Publix chicken tenders. Con: not really fast food; it's a deli counter at a grocery store. Pro: huge tenders.

There's a new truck stop in Pearl River with a Bojangles, and I was extremely impressed with them.

The Cajun chicken biscuit with pimento cheese at Bojangles is simply the greatest single item i have ever had at any fast food establishment ever

I would take Foosackly's over Guthries -- and Publix over Foosackly's.

But I don't get that excited about chicken fingers. I want them on occasion, but It's not something I typically crave. Jack's has decent ones too.

Crap list, Guthrie's can't be considered fast food. Its slow as shite.

I've said this on here before, but Guthries had to have the worst management and ownership in the history of fried chicken places back in the early 2000s. They should be the king of chicken fingers.

I used to have one within walking distance of my college living quarters and would go there routinely hung over. Its like they had to go hire the help to kill the chicken to make the meal, and I'm talking like 3 people in there at 12 on a friday lunch they should be pumping out chicken fingers and fries non stop.
Great chicken, but damn they are slow.

My favorite. But man, sometimes they’ll have a batch sitting in those gas station things for hours. I still eat them.

Fresh, though, I have yet to find a better chicken tender. Maybe Blue Store, but that’s not fast food. KK bone-in chicken is damn good too.

I have yet to try the tenders from Mama’s Fried Chicken in Opelousas. Always end up going bone-in and fried shrimps with sides.

KK corporate is strict about not doing that but it happens. We had one in town and the gas station owner dropped the franchise because he didn't like the rules. Or more likely story is they dropped him.

That’s good news.

KK is legit. Fried catfish is tasty too, as is the fried okra.

The Guthries they opened near me in Memphis a couple years back was an absolute ghost town, not sure how it even stayed open.
