“Firstly, players can be excited about some remakes,” Guillemot said, “which will allow us to revisit some of the games we've created in the past and modernize them; there are worlds in some of our older Assassin's Creed games that are still extremely rich.”

Black flag was stellar. Even had the ship war iPhone app.
Nearly platinumed it but required stupid multiplayer trophies

Would be cool if they used these as a method to bring back Desmond.
Don't really see a need to repurchase them otherwise. The original games hold up pretty well imo.
ETA: The first game is most in need of a remake. It could use a lot of improving.

I'll take Black Flag, but I selfishly want AC2 with modern mechanics.

They should remake the full Ezio trilogy remaster into one game. I'd buy that no question.

Yeah, I restarted Black Flag but on the Switch, and it still holds up well.

Some new Black Flag Remake rumors:
Reddit Post (original source included in post)
quote:
-The remake removes the modern day and replaces them with more content in Edward's pirate era (a few extra hours compared to the original)
-Gameplay will shift closer to the RPG-style of newer AC games
-Loot and gear stats for Edward
-Inventory systems and combat leaning toward the RPG style rather than the choreographed combat of the original
-No loading screens when moving between ship and land
-Map is not bigger, but islands will be filled with more activities and side content
-Expected to include cut content from the original, like parts of Mary Read's storyline that were dropped in 2013
-It's not on the same "big budget remake" level as Resident Evil 2 or Silent Hill 2, but more of a faithful reimagining with updates
-Uses Ubisoft's new Anvil Pipeline engine (same as AC Shadows)
-Release window: currently targeted for early 2026 (likely March), though some sources think it could slip to late 2026.
-They are reusing some assets from Skull & Bones to cut costs, but it won't be obvious to players.

Not sure why I read that as “monetize them” ….oh wait nvm, it’s Ubi we are talking about here.

I will play this. I will probably hate almost every second of this, but I will play it

Did you enjoy taking a break from being a pirate to walk around an office and play mini-games?

This was one of the very few post-Desmond AC's that actually moved the story forward. What they need to be doing is re-releasing the versions with Desmond and retcon the stupidity they ended his story with. If that's the end goal, I guess I can get on board with this. If not, I don't see a point in releasing a remake that doesn't include the modern day elements.

Supposedly the Black Flag remake is adding pirate missions and removing the modern sections where you're walking around Abstergo (?) entirely

I would argue by asking "what story?"
Personally I feel that modern day is a huge part of Assassin's Creed's identity; however, it's abundantly clear how Ubisoft has absolutely zero clue where to go with it narratively.
The writing in general has massively gone downhill since Black Flag, but modern day has suffered long before that.
