Anyone think we might draft a PG?

Until now I’ve been all on the draft a C train, but the more I look at the C’s that will be available when we pick, the more I realize how limited they all are. I’m starting to wonder if we might take a PG like Collier, Kolek, or Carrington (who was just mocked to us by Locked in NBA Big Board).
I’m also assuming we’ll land a veteran C, so if we don’t draft one maybe Karlo gets his shot.

I say we put our chips to the middle of the table and do what it takes to get Dejounte Murray to lead this team as a true PG that can score and is a good on ball defender not to mention a fantastic rebounder for a PG. They need a wing with length and we have one to trade. give them BI and our 1st round pick this year for Murray. If they want us to take on Capela’s expiring contract also to get the deal done then do it. Murray is the perfect fit for what we need and he’s on a great contract. The Lakers are the favorites to land him unfortunately. CJ would have to go to the bench as a first 6th man that still plays starter minutes. At this point in his career this could actually help him by him being the focus of the offense with the 2nd team.

Are you including Herb with those chips? Because that’s who Atlanta wants for Murray.

I could see us taking a PG that falls to us like Carrington or Carter. But we are in a good range to take a big as Missi, Edey, Holmes, Ware should all be part of that second tier big group and should be available. I’d prefer to take Carrington or Carter if they fall to us, but I’m perfectly fine with taking a C at 21. None of those would be a reach at that range

There should be some C options at 21, but the more I read, the worse they all sound:
Edey: probably won’t be there
Missi: has bricks for hands and absolutely no touch
Holmes: sounds too small to play C (otherwise he’s my pick)
Ware: has effort concerns (no thanks after Jaxson Hayes)
Filipowski: good on offense but not athletic enough for defense.

Drafting at that point in the draft means that you should go for BPA, because the odds are low that the player pans out.

Herb and Zion are untouchable to me. Every great team has a stopper on defense and we might have the best one in the game in Herb. I’ll give extra draft capital or even Dyson with the deal but not Herb. A starting lineup of
PG: Dejounte murray
SG: Herb
SF: Trey
PF: Zion
C: Capela
That looks a lot better than what we had. Capela is just a 1 year stopgap, no way they pay him but that’s ok because he’s your starting center this year trying to play his arse off to get paid.

I saw a mock draft on YouTube that had us trading with the rockets for pick #3. They had us taking Reed Sheppard even with Clingan still on the board. Then at 21 they had us taking Carrington.

I really like Carter. I believe we would have to get into the top 6 to get him though.
One of the possible suitors for Ingram is Charlotte, especially if there aren't going to resign Bridges. If we could get a package of Grant Williams, Bertans, and #6 for Ingram, I think we could get him (slight chance Clingan could slide and be there too).
Carter could split time with McCollum at the point for a year, then take over full time the next season, after we trade McCollum as an expiring. I love the mixture of Carter and Hawkins together as the future backcourt.

Now do the point guards….
Everyone at pick 21 will have flaws. In this draft, there are serious flaws in the guys who are projected to go top 3. If absolutely roll the dice on a guy like Ware who has all the ability of a starting center. I have a feeling he
won’t be there when we draft tho.
Add Filipowski in that too, who has legit offensive upside.

Why not just take Murray and a first for BI? Are we trying to get trade-raped now?

The PG’s at 21 definitely have limitations too.
Collier: a true PG and is strong but not that tall or that great of a vertical athlete. Also can’t shoot.
Kolek: another true PG that can shoot but isn’t athletic enough.
Carrington: sounds like more of a scoring PG/iso player which scares me and he doesn’t shoot the 3 well yet, but has more physical upside than the other 2.
I’m not saying PG is the move, just wondering if it isn’t as open and shut a case for drafting a C as we thought.

Nevermind, I see Collier measured 6’2 at the combine.

Would not to be surprised with point or BPA. Even Topic may fall. More likely there is a trade for the former Chalmette Owl.

I would love if Topic fell even though he most likely won’t play year. I just don’t see him falling that far.
I think more than likely our options will be Holmes, Filipowski, Kolek, or Carrington. And I would probably put them in that order.
That’s if we’re only looking at C and PG. There will also be other players if we go pure BPA like Da Silva.

If we get a higher pick as part of a BI trade, I wouldn’t be mad about Dillingham. Though I haven’t looked into him much since he’s going so much earlier than where we pick

What if I told you he measured in very similarly to Kira in both height and weight?

I get it, and anything is possible. We don’t really know how much they like certain guys. Might be a guard that they are in love with that we don’t see.
I just feel like there are so many post options at 21 and you can make a case for each one to at least be a solid role player.
