My Exmark 52” is about to bite the dust and Im currently mowing 6 acres with possibly more coming in the future. Just looking online, Im looking at a Scag Cheetah 2 with the 72” deck and the Hustler Laser Z 72”. Both come with Kawasaki 1000 engines. Any recommendations or comments on quality of each brand?

I cut 8+ acres a week. 60" ZD1211 takes between 3-4 hours. Kubota is a beast mower. Deck doesn't cut the best but does ok. I'd get a skag diesel or another kubota diesel if I had to buy again.

I think 60" is big enough. 60" scalps quite a bit on my rough terrain. 72" would be worse.

A 60 is definitely fine with me. I was just considering ground coverage. Looks like they both go around 12-14mph.

My ground is super rough in places. 72" might be better on smoother ground.

Kubota diesel engine for sure. 6 acres is a lot, it'll last forever and I believe they are mu h more fuel efficient than gas.

Though, I don't think you'll make that up with diesel prices and cost of upgrade.

I had a 2012 Kubota zd326 that I constantly had overheating issues with. I sold it for an older zd28 and it has been solid. The zd326 had about 400 hours on it when I sold it. The current one has about 700 hours on it and I’m assuming it’ll last me another 5 or 6 years before the belly needs to be replaced. The Kubotas are tanks but very heavy and rough riding.

I don’t own one but I consistently hear those Scag Cheetahs mentioned as top tier. Be prepared to pay though.

Currently running a Bad Boy 60 inch cut that I have been very happy with but it’s not one of their commercial units.

Kubota has nearly 40% of the total zero turn market in the US- there’s a reason for that.

They won’t have catchy names or funny ads- but when it comes to just being good. They are really good at it.

Have A Turf Tiger ll with 35 hp 72”.
Rides good and that thing is a beast. Vanguard engine has been flawless. Makes short work of 4 acres.
Picked it up used, 2017 model I bought in 2020, with 800+ hours for about 5500$. Couldn’t imagine paying 18k for a new one through. Doesn’t scalp much at all . Best mower purchase I have ever made.

I have a ZD18 Kubota that was bought brand new in 2000 making it 24 years old. Has mowed Louisiana twice over and the damn thing want die. No clue how many hours are on it because the counter went out in the high 2000’s. Still fires up and will mow anything you put in front of it. Have only serviced regularly, replaced the belt on the deck once in its lifetime, battery when needed and general stuff like scalp rollers. At the time it cost 10k and is the best 10k I’ve ever spent for a piece of equipment.

Commercial model, brand doesn't matter. Buy from a dealer that services what they sell.

Another I'd look at is the Grasshopper. It's available with a Kubota diesel. They have a forward deck layout that could be useful. I have a bunch of live oaks with branches reaching to the ground, it would be helpful cutting around them.

I’ve had good service from my Scag. Like others have said, buy from someone that can service it and get parts when you need it.

Think Im going with the Hustler Super Z 60 with the Kawasaki 35hp engine. Not a fan of the mustard yellow but looks like a well built machine

They’re not even in the top 5 much less 40%. NO ONE owns 40% of the ZTR market.

Look around at the lawn service guys in your area. Most are using Scag or Kubota with a few Exam ark. I have a Scag Cheetah 2 with a Kawasaki engine. Mowing about six acres.
Get a commercial grade from a dealer.
I know several people who bought Bad Boy mowers also and are happy so far.
Kubota diesels are hard to beat but I didn’t want to spend that much money.

Can second this statement about the Bad Boy. I also have a 60" Bad Boy ZT Elite and am very happy with it. Have a local dealer so if I need parts, they are readily available.

I have had a Bad Boy 54" since 2016. Only thing I have changed is blades and belts and I send to dealer once a year for a tune-up..

Been a good mower.

Bought mine last year and has been great so far. These things are built well, and have plenty of room to work on the parts.

I also have a 48" Kubota, have found it is much harder to get parts for the Kubota and work on the unit in general.

I'm going to go against the grain, but I don't give a damn about their service department. I only buy commercial grade equipment (I used to own a mowing business) and I've never had to have anything fixed under warranty.

I do all of the maintenance. All of it.

From greasing the gearbox on a trimmer, to adjusting and lapping valves on everything according to hours per manual, carb work, to piston rings. As long as you can get parts, you can fix it.

My bad boy has the big briggs on it. 2012 model. It cuts 4-6 acres once a week. Probably 40 weeks a year. That's an easy 1k hours on it.

Mobil1 0w40 Mobil 1 filter for a jeep 3.7 engine. Oil changes yearly. Filter change every other year. Air filter, blades, belts yearly. Spindle bearings every year if you go chinese. Every 5 years if you go Jap/US. Pto switch every other year.

Oem fuel pump 3 years in. Converted to car battery three years in.

Excellent mower.
