Blue Angels Pensacola July 13

I'll be in Destin that weekend. Seeing if it's feasible or worth the trouble to drive 1.5 hours and get a spot on the beach or somewhere else to watch? I've never been and would like to bring my 2 young sons with me. I'm just worried we'll get there and not get a good viewing because of the crowds. Thanks for any feedback.

I went to the westbank show several weeks ago, and it was a blast. I would definitely make the trip if you have the time. The crowds when we went were so spread out that there was not really any issue seeing everything. Plus it's all in the air, so it's not as if you're having to stand tip toe to see over someone's head.

Watch the blue angels practice info Facebook page. They put up their practices and tell you the best places to watch.

practices on the base are much better to attend and the museum is worth touring
Pensacola is a cluster for the beach show and yes parking and finding a spot is hectic

Get there early like 7:00 am early. Spots on beach and parking fill up fast. Also going to be awhile leaving. Obviously need to bring a canopy, chairs, food, drink etc plus think about bathroom needs. It’s an incredible show watching on the beach but it’s a logistical challenge. I used to go every year but too old to fight it now. I wait until November and go to the airbase and catch that show. Not the beach but still an awesome experience plus there is a lot on the tarmac to explore which your kids will love

They have a documentary special on Amazon (it was ok) but they showed a map of various stops they make on tour. They placed New Orleans on the map all the way down by Houma.

this is good advice, or just look at their schedule and pick a location that works best for you

You’d have to be there before daylight to get a spot
Traffic is a nightmare
Better to go one day the week before
They practice each day and it’s pretty much the show

Watched them perform from Fort Pickens before. Traffic and parking wasn’t too bad but this was still during Covid (2021). You miss some of the museum and commentary but still pretty cool to check out.
Fort Pickens is pretty cool too so there’s that part as well. From Destin it may be a little shorter drive.

rent a boat and take the intercostal, watch it from the water

We were able to drive in and park here at 8AM or so.
Street Parking
Parking close to the beach access boardwalk was huge.
As others have said, its hectic and be ready to sit in traffic. But it's doable.

That's what I was curious about, we are there from 7/6 and are supposed to leave 7/13 but talked about checking out and finding a spot to watch the show. If the practices are pretty much the same I think I'd rather just hit the road home instead of fighting all the traffic later that day.

we'll give you the benefit of the doubt and pretend this is a joke

I've seen both. I'll take the Angels, but they are both incredible.

i suspect 1) rentals are already scheduled and 2) $$.
As someone suggested, see the BLue Angel Practice FB page and catch the practice on base by the museum.
You have to get there a bit early (say an hour) as there is a parking limit. Great view as you are essentially at center of the show. You can rent chairs from the museum or bring your own.

You have to be in line by 6am over there to get a good spot.
The way to do it is to take a boat out on the water for the day and watch from the water.
