Does the fed gov send you something in the mail once you turn 18, or is it up to the young man to seek out registration?

Forms at the post office…or completely online?

Felony not to register…pretty much never hear about it though.

Our son just did. Turned 18 last month. We told him he had to; it’s online now. He never received a reminder from the feds or anything like that.

I have no idea if you can still go to the P.O. to do it, but I would think you can.

Ours turned 18 last month too, May 24th. I’ll fill out the online form to receive the paperwork.

Pretty sure when you register to vote you automatically get registered for the draft.

Google says no one has been prosecuted for failing to register since the 1980's. It's probably never a problem since we're nowhere close to drafting, and if we did end up drafting there'd likely be mass riots and non compliance anyway.

Wasn’t true for my son, though he registered to vote at his high school, somehow.

And yeah … there will never again be a draft.

Makes you ineligible for certain benefits though. To apply for a federal student loan or a civil service job you have to have registered for selective service.

No. Wish you could do them both at the sane time. We vote at the local library.

With low numbers and many kids refusing to even consider it, don’t be so sure.

wouldn’t be shocked to see the US get into a real meat grinder type of war.

Why? Is it just your feelings in your gut that tells you this or what?
With our advanced weapons we shouldn’t ever need to be in a meat grinding fiasco like what Ukraine and Russia or doing. If we do, something has gone badly wrong.

The House has passed a bill to automate selective service registration for males 18 years of age and older. I don't know if the Senate is expected to pass the bill or not.

If they do all males will be automatically registered on their 18th birthday.

Why did Congress pass a law about automatically registering males for the draft just this week?

Do you think the Federal government would have the balls to do it. I don’t

As it stands today, when you apply for a license at 15, they collect all your information and the state "signs you up" on your 18th birthday.

I can find the law if you like. The federal government requires you to sign up online or at a post office.

I never registered for selective service. I enlisted and was in basic a month and a half after my 18th birthday.

Because there was a decrease in the number of registrations as registering for the service was no longer required to get student loans.

And no law was passed as of yet.

I think that pretty much covers it.

My son has other plans…but I don’t want him on the wrong side of the law either.
