They’re technically part of the South, but they don’t act like it. They have a lot of progressive politicians with progressive policies. Their governor Tim Kaine was even Hillary Clinton’s running mate in 2016. They used to be a key state and foundation of the South, but they’ve all but lost their South card at this point. They behave more like a northern state than a a southern state politically and culturally.

When and why did their southern culture get washed away and replaced with woke bullshite?

You have it backwards, dude.

Virginia was divided into two states because the west part of Virginia sided with the Union while the rest of the state was part of the Confederacy.

Ironically, the roles have reversed in modern times, and I’m asking why.

Each of the regions have distinct cultures. NOVA, CenVA, the coast, Appalachia, and SOVA. This is pretty common in physically larger states and even true in some smaller states. NOVA has a larger population and being closer to DC and Maryland it leans far more liberal than the other regions.

In the 1960's they were separating from being southern already .....

My daughter's husband was in the White House on 9-11. When she called me the day after ....."I hate these people."

They were fortunate to transfer to Missouri when I moved to the next step in my career ....

Have a home in Winchester. Va which is about 60+ miles from DC. The people we have met here are from Maine, NJ, Ohio. CT, NY, etc. The locals are very southern or west Va types and still have their confederate statue in the courthouse square.

Went to Mechanicsville Va right outside of Richmond a few years ago. It was “baw” central and had a very conservative/southern feel to it

It's a Southern state except for the area within about 30 minutes of Washington DC.

You realize you just corrected El Gaucho, right?

I hope that baw participates in the Grand Isle Tarpon Rodeo cause he catches a lot of fish even when they have seen the hook in his bait for years.

You may or may not have the best understanding of Virginia. Southwest Virginia is like Lower Alabama except with mountains and way fewer black folks. Southwest Virginia is country country.
