My wife and I are making a trip here in mid-July. Does anyone have any dining recommendations on the property that are a must? There are plenty of options for breakfast, lunch, and dinner.

We will mostly be by the pool and on the beach to relax, but would consider a quality activity as well if there are any recommendations.

The hibachi was fun. I like the French restaurant. Honestly haven't had a bad dining experience there and I've been twice.

Yea all of the restaurants are of similar quality, so go with what you’re craving that day. It’s a great resort.

We liked the French and Indian restaurant. Thought the hibachi was just ok food wise but was fun. Lobster house was good for lunch (never went for dinner).

Strongly recommend the We Love Excellence Playa or whatever on FB. Lots of good perspective there.

My only suggestion would be to try a different place each night for dinner. Lobster House lunch is good, breakfast is breakfast and we preferred room service but all I really like is avocado toast, some fruit and a couple scrambled eggs.

Quick funny story about when we checked in.

We saw your room attendant and I noticed a bottle of Johnny Walker on the counter. I told her we didn't drink scotch but asked if we could swap it out for another bottle of vodka. She looked at me like I was crazy so I repeated myself assuming there was a language barrier. She grabbed the bottle, walked to my backpack and stuffed the JW in the bag and said "I bring more vodka..no swapping."

Have fun...we're gonna book something early summer for '25 back there

Slight hack here, but we're going back to the little sister resort Finest for the second year in a row. Great resort. Easy with kids. Food is above average. Staff is spectacular. Just eat somewhere different every night. The mexican fiesta night is a blast if that applies to Excellence.

It wasn’t a waste for us. We loved the priority check-in and private concierge. Magna restaurant was fantastic. Loved the club only loungers on the beach. I can see how some people wouldn’t want it, but we thought it was well worth the money we spent

Thanks for all the dining advice. Is the beach and pool area packed, or is there plenty of space to enjoy and relax? I've heard the service at the pool and on the beach is great.

I always struggle when they do special events on the beach with food on certain nights. Do you eat there and bypass a dinner at one of the restaurants?

At times you may have to walk around a little on the beach for loungers but there are always some available and if you can't find any ask some of the staff to find you some and they will.

Pools will have activities in the main section but there are always more quiet and reserved places (save the excellence club and get a swim up pool vie).

Service is constant and consistent. If you tip them early they'll be more constant but I don't necessarily want someone coming up every 5 minutes. Not once on any trip to any excellence resort was I without a drink for an extended period of time when I wanted one.

The biggest issue I had was in punta cana when they tried to "upgrade" me to room with private plunge pool rather then the swim up we booked. he couldn't understand when I told him that's not what we wanted.

"But this is an upgrade sir."

Yeah, I get it and am appreciative but I would prefer the room we booked.

"We don't have any available right now"

Okay, no big deal. Just take my luggage and when one of the swim ups become available bring my luggage there and we will follow-up with the front desk throughout the day to see when the room is ready.

Dude was perplexed but we worked through it.

I think Excellence Club is a better deal at Finest than at Excellence (note: I've only done the playa mujeres resorts, not the DR or other ones). At Excellence it only seems like a minor upgrade from everyone else, but at Finest it feels more significant with better bars and no kids, and I thought the club restaurant at Finest was way better than the one at Excellence.

That said if you do it get new Bvlgari toiletries every day. Last time we took home a half a suitcase full, I put then in travel toiletry bag and use them for other trips.

I have not been since December 2020.

I really enjoyed all of the food available. There was a French place that was really good. Spent a lot of time in the sports bar, but I hear that has been moved/renovated.

We took a little excursion to see Chichen Itza and a few of the surrounding cenotes.

Id go back.
