Im calling it...Tiger Woods will be in contention on the weekend

Does not sound like people are gonna be shooting -21 this week which is ridiculous. Prime tiger might not win a tournament like that. But with his short game around the greens on fire right now...He has hit the ball off the tee pretty well. If his body holds up and he catches a few breaks I could see a pair of even pars Thursday and Friday.

He might be in contention to make the cut. That is all.

Based on what? The 2 tournaments he’s played this year?
I’m calling it - he won’t make the cut.

fricking Tiger bros refuse to face the reality that he’s done. Every major all the socials post stupid shite during his practice rounds- “Joe schmo played a practice round with Tiger. He’s hitting his irons better than EVER” and then the sucking off begins
I love Tiger and he was amazing in his prime, but he’s done

Tiger's putting is going to be his problem. His touch just isn't what it once was. Pinehurst doesn't require significant length because the greens are incredibly hard but to your point, his short game has always been strong. He just needs to get the <10ft putts to drop early and momentum rolling. Baring a 65-65 Kaymer type showing, I could see him being in the mix.

I’ve been a Tiger “fan boy” since he came on tour, but he has done nothing since his car wreck to give any reasonable person confidence he’s going to contend in a tournament, much less a major. When he came back in 2018 he was actually contending in tournaments regularly before he finally broke through at East Lake. This has been totally different
Quite frankly, he doesn’t and can’t play enough golf anymore to be ready to win a golf tournament. It’s not just about being able to swing a club with his buddies at Seminole.

Yep. Skanky white women and car wrecks while taking pain-killers catches up to all of us at some point.

Lol. Phil Nippleson going off at +35000 this weekend. That's the smart money bet.

I expect the usual level of pre tourney Tiger media hype with the same poor result.

I'm calling it, the TV coverage will shove him down our throats even if he is 10 shots from making the cut.

No way in hell he's in contention. This isn't some club level tournament, it's the U.S. Open and his game is not up to that level anymore.
He may not even make the cut, but IF he does, I'd say he finishes pretty far down in the pack by Sunday evening.

The Tiger haters claimed he was done in 2016-17 and they got their shite pushed in when he came back and won at East Lake and then the Masters in 2019.
But he’s just not been the same since nearly losing his leg. I’m as big of a Tiger fan as anyone. He hits too many poor shots and doesn’t putt well. He’s done.

Pinehurst is going take a toll on his body.

Exactly.
His body can't take 4 days, especially in a tournament that will be so grueling. Hitting out of that rough, hitting off of constant uneven footing, etc. Pinehurst is a grind.
Side note: I actually played it and it was obviously not in US Open conditions, and it was still pretty demoralizing

Putting and Wedges will play huge on that course so he might be able to stay around par.
Which should keep him in contention.
-2 wins it
