It's a fair question. But it's better applied not just to Americans but the world in general.
Look at the United Nations and its member states. The vast majority of the world supports them.
The bottom line is the vast majority of folks with strong opinions on the matter have no real comprehension of the conflict. It's really quite strange.

Yep.
I don't really care much about the conflict at all therefore don't have a strong opinion on it.
I do find it odd when people defend the murder of 0-8 year old children if they are born in Gaza rn, yet think we should arrest people for aborting an embryo here.
