Hold Jay Johnson to the same standard as football and basketball coaches

I was surprised to hear Johnson say post-game that he already had his pitching set up BEFORE the game. I can understand obviously the starter but the way he handled the 9th is still utterly ridiculous. Once again, the CORRECT thing to do is to bring out Ackenhausen for the 9th and if he puts anybody on base then you bring in Jump....I have no problem with Jump pitching IF NEEDED!
But let's compare Johnson's own statement with say LSU football or basketball coaches. Those coaches and Johnson are supposed to take into the flow of the game. Everyone here should know the concept...it is called "adjustments" and people crucify the FB and BB coaches when they don't. Well, Johnson did NOT adjust to Ackenhausen pitching lights out in the 8th...3 Ks in 3 batters. So yeah, to predetermine the change of pitchers in the 9th for 0 reason at all for this game was stupid! Sorry, it was and that isn't hindsight at all. That is called "game time adjustments". In this case, if it ain't broke, don't try to fix it.

Ok. He won a National Championship last year

I absolutely hated the move to pull Ack for Jump after Ack just mowed down their lineup in the 8th inning.

How about we stop trying to make comparisons between sports that aren’t comparable.

And this year he screwed the pooch...do you have a point? Sssssooo, Johnson is incapable of making a stupid move in a baseball game. I understand...the perfect coach.

Remember when you thought they changed a baseball draft rule because you didn't know that draft eligible sophomores existed?

Starters aren't accustomed to being brought into dirty innings. MLB managers talk about this in the post season every season when this situation presents itself. But random TD poster is going to tell everyone what the CORRECT thing to do was.

It is 100% comparable. There is strategy and matchups in all sports and if you don't understand game time management, you need to quit watching sports. Sorry man, that comment of yours made 0 sense. The games are different but the responsibilities of the coaches...exactly the same. WIN THE DAMN GAME!

Because they didn’t win another national championship? Or because he didn’t make every decision perfectly as you would have done?

So we should hold Jay Johnson to the same standards as Brian Kelly and Matt McMahon who haven’t won anything with their time at LSU? I swear we have some of the most clueless fans. Jay Johnson has proven he’s one of the best active college baseball coach. His track record is proven there’s no need to hold him to the same standards as other coaches that haven’t done anything yet for this university.

Winning a college football game once a week isn’t remotely close to winning tournament baseball games.

CJJ simply put all his chips in to win in the 9th

First, LSU had a snowball's chance of winning the NC this year...winning or losing out of Chapel Hill. But once again, this was not a hard decision. Unless Ackenhausen told the coach, "my arm is worn out" or he allowed a base runner in the 9th, it was utterly insane to bring in Jump. Obviously Jump is a much better pitcher normally but Ackenhausen was mowing them down. If it ain't broke, don't try to fix it. He screwed up. I'm shocked that anyone can say he didn't.

The 20/20 hindsight around here is incredible.

i was ok with it until we lost. then i was like oh my god i hated that move. then i listed the number of SEC baseball teams i've managed and i convinced myself that i can't have an opinion on the matter. All i can do is have compassion for Coach Jay Johnson.

I really hate our football only fans who try to talk baseball. Just fricking stop…

Nah bro. The Mensa member HOF baseball coaches on the rant think Ack should have started the inning with Jump coming in if/when he got in trouble.
