Suggestions for discovering new rock music from say 2017-current?

I was reminiscing about the good ole days with my son, showing him songs from Soundgarden, Deftones, A Perfect Circle, Metallica. Good rock bands that were able to go mainstream back in the 90s-early 2000s.
But I’ve got nothing for current day rock music. Maybe Imagine Dragons? I’m not a big fan though.
So without bringing in new albums from old bands, who could I look into as good rock (metal is fine too) that isn’t too niche?

It’s a lot harder to find now, but Spotify is probably your best bet. A few current artists you might or might not like:

Drain is one of my favorite bands from the last couple of years. Its hardcore/thrash but very fun and upbeat. They've been gaining some traction since their second album released last year.

Turnstile is one of the biggest up and coming bands in hard rock. They're called hardcore, but I would say its much closer to pop punk. If modern rock radio still existed they would be all over it.

Makes sense. Furnace Fest is doing great in Birmingham. Just a big throwback festival to the punk/hardcore scene of the 2000s.
I was watching some videos of live performances wondering where that is nowadays. Soundgarden at the Pinkpop Festival in 1992 was unhinged. Good rock music with high energy in the crowd. Lots of young people emoting in an environment they seemed to need. It wasn’t niche. It was the mainstream crowd for rock music.
I guess it’s just generational differences. Gen Z doesn’t have our angst, I guess.
I’ll check out the bands mentioned though. I’d like to find that Gen Z isn’t all pop/Tik Tok.

Most bands that get popular now is through tiktok, it's not just pop. Sleep Token, Bad Omens, Lorna Shore, Slaughter to Prevail, and a bunch of other newer bands all blew up on tiktok first. Even some older bands like Deftones are finding new, younger audiences there.

Since this seems to be geared toward heavier/hardcore bands, does anyone know of modern bands in the same vein as Botch, ETID, The Minor Times?

It’s funny. I tried to get my kids into Deftones all through their high school years. They pretty much turned their noses up at it in favor of rap. Now, when my 25 year old is on his phone, I hear these 10-15 second clips of songs that I love from the past. I ask what he’s looking at, and his answer is always TikTok. One of his favorite bands now? Deftones

I'll say, the thing isn't that there aren't good bands today. It's that in the 90's, the bands you noted hit the mainstream.
Today, rock isn't that impactful in the mainstream. What's mainstream has changed, and finding good rock isn't like it was in the 90's where you just flipped on the radio.
Good rock still exists today, but it's much more on the listener to seek and find.

Apparently, TikTok really boosted the Deftones and a lot of the shoegazer bands. It brought the Deftones to the point where this year they're playing early evening slots on the big stages at Coachella and Lollapalooza.

I'm not going to lie, rock is weird. I never thought I'd lose the taste for whatever good rock is in, or at least consistently discover new rock bands. There has to be good new rock right?
I think there is, but for some reason in my head rock is definitely an age thing. I've listened to dang near every new "great" or "better than good" new rock band... and I can't like any of them. Like they are good for a song or two, but 95% of the time, I just can't listen to any album over and over. I don't think "there isn't good rock," that's a lame excuse. I have to think I've changed a little. Doesn't matter if I go back to 80s hard rock or the more comfortable 90s and 2000s, I'd rather that than almost anything I've heard since maybe 2010? Titus andronicus being the last great rock band I've enjoyed thoroughly.

They're definitely going to be more niche than some of the others mentioned here, but my absolute favorite heavy thing going right now is Darko US. It's a side project of Tom Barber (OG Lorna Shore) and Josh Miller (Emmure), both from Chelsea Grin today. They just released a new album called Starfire today. It's a lot of fun and a merging of many different styles. This is a studio performance of one of their singles from the new album...

I feel like there are so many i missed out on that i dont necessarily need to find "new" bands.
Ill give an example, i really like puscifer. But i havent really delved into their music until the past 2 years.
Puscifer is another maynard band.
Actually with the deftones reference maybe this is a good one, crosses.
