Can we get the offense we had in that game to go along with him.

I wouldn't be afraid to throw Hurd against Wofford
He's shown glimpses of end of season Hurd last year in his last outings going back to Ole Miss
If you can't beat Wofford with Hurd, odds of being able to win the regional shrink considerably especially if North Carolina throws down to their opponent

I would feel better with Hurd against UNC than Wofford. If a Wofford hitter gets on base and steals then Hurd will lose his collective mind

I think we'd still win if we threw Hurd. But we'd lose a lot of bullpen arms in the process. Not even worth the slightest risk.

How can I forget that game?

Also, how can I forget how bad he looked up until the 2024 SEC tourney?

It's as if LSU won the national championship and everyone lost their sense of logic.

Hurd pitched well vs. Georgia in the regular season finale last year. He then followed it up with a really good start in the SEC Tournament. He then pitched really well in game 2 of the regional after Floyd was tabled following the rain delay. By the time LSU reach Omaha Hurd already had 3 really good performances to give you confidence.

This year Hurd went from day 1 starter to only 10 appearances total in the last 2 months of the season. And many of those were against mid-week opponents.

His last 4 appearances vs. SEC opponents:

vs. A&M in a blowout: 0.0 IP, 2 hits, 2 ERs, 3 walks
vs. Ole Miss: 1.2 IP, 1 hit, 0 ERs, 2 SOs
vs. South Carolina: 2.0 IP, 3 hits, 4 runs, 2 walks, a wild pitch and a hit batter
vs. Tenn: 1.2 IP, 2 hits, 1 run

He's faced 29 batters in that stretch: He's given up 7 runs and walked 7. Yes, he has some strike outs too...which look pretty...but overall the numbers do not instill any confidence whatsoever. Which is the complete opposite of the situation when he started game 3 of the championship series last year.

We gave him a nice little cushion of run support in that game, but yes, Hurd really did come on strong toward the end of the year last year.
