Former Pittsburgh Steelers wide receiver Antonio Brown, once celebrated on the field, has declared bankruptcy, signaling a continuation of his off-field troubles. Brown, known for his dynamic play and multiple Pro Bowl selections, has faced numerous legal and behavioral challenges, making his financial downfall somewhat anticipated.
On Monday, Brown took to his CTESPN account to announce his financial distress, simultaneously promoting his self-styled legacy as a "first ballot Hall of Famer in 2027." His claims did not stop there; he also branded himself as the founder of "the most-trusted source in all of sports," statements that align with his well-documented confidence.

I am actually a lot more surprised when NFL players don’t go broke. It’s the culture.

Google says,
quote:
By the time they have been retired for two years, 78 percent of former NFL players have gone bankrupt or are under financial stress; within five years of retirement, an estimated 60 percent of former NBA players are broke. Aug 18, 2023

Id love to see a finer breakdown of this based on years played. If you play 4 games in your career, makes sense.
If you play plus five years in either league and sign a second contract, I have to think this number drops considerably amongst that group

He's playing you all like a banjo. This dude is playing 7D chess inside a wormhole with Katt Williams as his OC and Terrence Howard as his DC, you'll never catch up to where he is.
"Bankruptcy"
That what they call it when you can print money by tweeting about bullshite.

Don't they get league retirement after like 4 years of playing?
Posted on 5/21/24 at 9:02 am to BHTiger
Avg NFL retirement is about $45K/yr if you qualified, (had to be on NFL roster for at least 3 games over 3 yrs).
That probably doesn't even cover one month of Brown's child support bills.

He absolutely qualifies for the league pension and probably a pretty nice salary relative to normal people salaries.
However, it really kicks in at 55.
quote:
Each season represents a credit towards the pension amount, with more credits translating to a higher pension. For example, a player with three credited seasons and an average salary of $1 million would receive a pension of $9,000 per month.
Players can start receiving their full pension at the age of 55, but they will face penalties and receive a reduced amount if they opt to receive their pension before this age. Waiting until the age of 65 can result in a significantly increased benefit.
Y'all do the math:
He made $80.744,339 over 12 seasons for an average of $6,728,695 a season.
quote:
NFL players receive a pension based on their average salary and years of service, as calculated using the following formula:
1. 0.0033 multiplied by the player's average salary for their credited seasons
2. Multiply by the number of credited seasons
3. Multiply by the number of years in the plan
4. Divide by 12 to determine the monthly pension benefit
