Wife allergic to all earrings, unless they are gold

Is this common? I was going to get my wife some earrings for a gift. She says she is allergic to all metals except gold.
Is this a real thing? Or is she just gaslighting me into believing I have to buy gold earrings?

It is common. My daughter used to have to paint the earrings with clear nail polish and that always seemed to help.

Yeah, it's common. My daughter is allergic to pretty much any earrings that aren't real gold or silver. When I go the cheap route, her ears get red and sore.

She’s probably allergic to nickel. (The metal- not the 0.05 coin)

I'm allergic to them all even if they are gold, as far as I recall. I let them close up years ago.
