Since last year I would do number 2 and there'd be lots of blood, bright red and painless. It would be on and off, say a month on, 2-3 months off. Got a colonoscopy in December and had an internal hemorrhoid, he stated he didn't have the tools to remove internal ones, nothing else found. I started doing greyskull which includes deadlift and squats earlier this year, and now it's every time I take a dump, no 2-3 months without bleeding.

How long does this typically last? I'm in my early 50s and first hemorrhoid. No pain, not necessarily bothering me but kind of sucks to see every time I get off the pot. Is there OTC meds for this? Thanks.

ETA: Is the deadlifts and squats just going to keep it bleeding? It's fine, I'll keep up my workouts, just curious.

I’ve had it on and off for a long time but it’s been very severe bleeding the last year or so. I can’t wear light pants, kind of an embarrassing problem.

They told me to try Metamucil but it made it even worse. I take an iron supplement for the blood loss.

I know that doesn’t answer your question but you have my sympathy. It’s not a fun problem to have but a lot better than having colon cancer or something more serious causing the bleeding.

i had similar problems for years. once i cut out the vast, vast majority of the alcohol and nearly all processed foods from my diet, it went away. 90% of my diet last 8 years is grass-finished whole-cow beef and farm-raised eggs. i have maybe one alcoholic beverage a month. i havent had blood in my stool in a decade. i really miss having 4-5 drinks with friends over a meal; dont miss the processed foods at all. Every day goes by its a little easier to live without the alcohol

im no doctor. just my 2c. good luck with this

btw im a lifter also. the big compound lifts and kettlebell work. when i had this problem i was not a lifter. mine was a diet and lifestyle problem. hope this helps

I will suggest a few things that I did when I suffered from the same issue.

1. take a break from lifting too much for 4-6 weeks
2. apply prep h as often as necessary, using the tip that applies the medicine internally
3. adjust diet to increase fiber
4. When bleeding has subsided, return to lifting with lower weights while focusing on controlling your core and breath.

ETA: Oh yeah, and get a squatty potty.

Curious about the same thing. Seems like from what I read online that exercise makes them worse or get bigger. Not lifting doesn’t seem to be a good answer.

If the choices are bleed from your butt forever or take a break from doing heavy lifts for 4-6 weeks, I'm gonna take that break.

Did you still do like body weight exercises and such during your break?

I appreciate the replies. I have never even heard of a squatty potty but that's interesting. I seldom drink alcohol, just 1 drink so far this year. I eat "decent" but can improve for sure. I eat healthy meals but a few days a week I can wear out a bag of chips. I'll try the cream recommended. If I have to take a few weeks off from at least deadlifts and squats I'll try that also.

How's your liver health? I ask because I recently re-read your thread on mushrooms and you mentioned how you used to drink pretty heavily, and even if you're a teetotaler now, or just drink less, your liver function may be impaired and the liver is responsible for making what is called "clotting factors" for our blood. If your liver is impaired and not producing sufficient blood clotting factors then you will just bleed easier and if you're actively bleeding it will take longer for that bleeding to stop, if it does at all. It's a pretty serious issue that I see in the ICU quite a bit.

I feel like a dick bringing that up, but I'm not judging you for past or current habits, I know you're trying to be healthier and the liver issue is just something that I know has an impact on blood clotting and I thought it may be relevant to your situation.

Although I can't speak to the efficacy of these things, there are supplements for liver "detoxifying" and health, as well as certain foods that are good for liver support/health. I think that if a person simply stops beating up their liver with too much drugs/alcohol/bad food it will "detoxify" itself because that is it's main function anyway. There's also food/supplements that will aid your blood's ability to clot, green leafy vegetables, for instance. Bottom line, if you have daily evidence of active bleeding, that's a serious issue and you need to get it fixed immediately, sorry to be sounding like it's an emergency, but it kinda is...you never know. I'd hate for it to progress to the point you find yourself in the ED with a hemoglobin of 8 getting transfused with several units of blood.

Yeah, I still did weights, just lower weights with higher reps and nothing that put increased pressure on my abdomen.

I had something similar about 10 years ago. It would pop up every so often then go away. One time though it never went away and I was bleeding pretty heavily. Resting pulse was at around 100 I had very low energy.
I had to have surgery to fix it. Agonizing 3 days post op but then no more problems.

See a proctologist.

I've mentioned this is other threads about the same topic, but I quit doing deadlifts. Maybe it's just one type of lift that's causing this issue for you.

I still a lot of different lower body workouts, but I just don't do deadlifts.

Funny that deads don’t really give me problems but heavy deep squats do and I say the squats that are damn near my max. It’s the strain trying to come out of the hole so to speak is what triggered mine.

Hemorrhoids are the worst. I got them really bad in my early 20s had to get them cut out multiple times.

I’ve been lucky to avoid them since. Couldn’t tell you why or how. I seem to have random issues I go through then they go away for no rhyme or reason.

I feel for you boss. I used to do a ton of soaking in the tub. I’d go see proctologist for sure.

As someone on here suggested before; Rutin. I haven't had an issue for a few years now. If I feel a flare up, I increase the dosage, but I take two per day and still do deads, squats, etc.

I appreciate the post. Liver enzymes were fine this past January. Last year only issue I had was too much hemoglobin, but it was just barely on the high side. This year all blood work came back good

That's good. Then I'd try to attack it with food, get more vitamin K foods in yer diet, probably 1 serving a day of some kind of greens may be all you need to stop that bleeding. Fiber supplement may help you by softening your stool and making it so easy to pass stool that it doesn't irritate your 'rrhoids" I take whole psyllium husk, not psyllium husk powder. Stuff like Metamucil is powdered psyllium husks, but I don't take it for constipation. I am taking it as a pre-biotic to feed my intestinal flora/fauna, however, it does make it so taking a dump is a quick and effortless endeavor. But fiber supplements treat everybody differently, go with what works for you, whole psyllium husks just work best for me.

Metamucil crackers or powder, lots of water, on the pot then standing back up within about 10 seconds. If you have to go again later, so be it but no sitting there.

Some docs give Cortisone cream over the counter for short periods.
