What is the Catholic Church’s position on IVF?
Unintended consequences and dirty secrets
“Donum Vitae compares IVF to abortion, saying that “through these procedures, with apparently contrary purposes, life and death are subjected to the decision of man, who thus sets himself up as the giver of life and death by decree.”
“ How are children harmed through IVF?
During the IVF process, multiple human embryos are made and then evaluated in a “grading” process that determines their cellular “quality.” There are multiple grading methods that IVF providers use to examine embryos with an eye for which may be the most suitable for implantation into the uterus.
Almost half of the human embryos created through IVF are “discarded” during the process, according to the Center for Genetics and Society. This has led to millions of human embryos being discarded, something that in the Church’s eyes amounts to the killing of millions of innocent lives.
Additionally, the use of IVF has resulted in a surplus of an estimated 1 million human embryos being kept frozen in laboratories across the country where they are often stored indefinitely or destroyed in embryonic scientific research.”

God kills far more embryos with his will than IVF. So unfair he doesn’t get a bad rap for it

Kansas City Chiefs kicker Harrison Butker faced backlash for telling female college graduates to become homemakers, but his mom, Elizabeth Keller Butker, is an accomplished physicist.
Keller Butker has worked in the department of radiation oncology at the Emory University School of Medicine in Atlanta since 1988, according to her LinkedIn.
A 2020 article by the school’s Winship Cancer Institute stated that she specializes in two forms of radiation: brachytherapy and Gamma Knife medical physics care. Keller Butker obtained her master’s degree in medical physics from the nearby Georgia Institute of Technology in 1988 after getting a bachelor’s degree in chemistry from Smith College in Northampton, Mass., in 1985.
Her father, James W. Keller, also worked in oncology at Emory for 28 years before his retirement in 2011, per the school’s staff directory.
Page Six has reached out to Keller Butker for comment on her son’s controversial remarks.
Harrison finna get his mouth washed out with soap next time he goes home.

So his mom gave radiation to cancer patients, helping people live against gods will of them dying of cancer?
If IVFis wrong because it is unnatural way of creating life, radiation treatment should be just as wrong as it’s an unnatural method of preserving life . Go ahead, argue against it by twisting your mind in a logical pretzel. It’s often what one has to do in the name of religion

Huh?
The preservation of life is why devout Catholics take issue with IVF and why they don't take issue with modern medicine.

Why is it ok for someone to play God while on an operating table and alter the natural course of life and death?
I guess that’s what Catholics want?

The issue is the 200+ million humans destroyed to get the 10.

No, Catholics don't want that. Did you have a stroke or medical event recently?

Isn’t it great that Butker and his gaggle of far right collectivists lecture women on how they should live their lives.
Trade proposal. Women can abort as many fetuses as they want, and non-felons can own any weapon the national guard can use.

My only son was born via IVF. If I’m to be judged by that then so be it. Granted Catholics shouldn’t have any say so on anything for the most part.

But most Catholics are normal human beings. They see IVF as giving life to a couple who can’t conceive naturally. Regardless of what the Bible or Rome says the majority of Catholics don’t care. Now if you go to some retreat thing sure.
This is against God's Will. What we "want," is not necessarily what we should receive. Our passions, and our desires, should not be the sole driver of outcomes, and we should not go against God's will just to get the thing we want.
The ends do not justify the means. That's a very Catholic belief. And unfortunately, that affects things that seem "good," like IVF or surrogacy. Both are driven by disordered desires.
As you mention the "majority" of Catholics, and Christians and Christians in general, are typically misled by desire, by "happiness," by pleasure and earthly needs. That is the struggle of being Christian, and really living it.
That's not to sit on an every tower either. You probably struggle with it in some way, with some things, and maybe view the "want of children," as a "good" that should be fulfilled no matter the cost. But that's not aligned with Catholic belief.
Even if Butker could have said it more eloquently, he is right.

If Butkers wife or be himself was infertile he would have been the first at the door at the fertility clinic, after all it’s his wife’s greatest accomplishment and worth. Don’t let him fool you brother
I have multiple nieces and nephews born of IVF and and the world is a better place for it

Chargers didn't waste much time poking fun at him with their schedule release:

I mean he sounds full holly roller so he may actually punt on it. The hardcore religious types are just something I don't understand.

BRAVO! Well stated!

100%
Butker said what needed to be said. (Pagans, Atheists and Dims notwithstanding.)
If some "Cafeteria Catholics" or so-called "Christians" and "Conservatives" are so offended by quibbles with Butker, let them take it up with The Almighty. This man is spot on.
Kudos to Harrison Butker for trying to help wake up and mentor the young AND old so that they know how bypass our Vampire-Culture and be better Christians and people.
happier Christians.
