he may try but it's very hard to do, once football is over you are starting sec play and that's not the time to be learning on the fly
would be nice to have him for depth purposes and I guess technically he wouldn't count as a roster spot for hoops
he was ineligible this year for basketball at Zachary

He'll try to do it then stop and focus football. Almost always happens.

Marcus spears and Michael Clayton come to mind.

It sounds good until he does conditioning for football

I had heard he seriously considered just playing basketball but people have informed him that he is a unicorn on the football field, not so on basketball court. Aren’t that many tight ends with his athleticism and measurable, lots of basketball players with them

He’s a good basketballl player but not special
He’s special on the football field but doesn’t love it

LSU can only have 12 scholarship players this year (instead of 13). They have already hit 12, so the 13th guy would have to technically be a walk-on like they did with Hunter Dean last year.
Assuming they can't find another strictly basketball player to join the roster, then why not let Green join the team? He was a solid basketball player and got offers to play in college. LSU is pretty deep at TE, so it's likely he won't get a ton of PT on the football field this year. If he can give you anything on the basketball court it would be a plus. If not. No big deal because you wouldn't be counting on him to contribute

Ben McDonald?

McDonald didn't join baseball until after hoops was over and when you can pump 95 mph fastballs by hitters it allowed him to be effective his fr year but when he got to Omaha it wasn't pretty
once he focused on baseball full time he became dominant on the mound

Chris Carrier suited up for basketball in the mid 80s when they were short on players due to ineligible players, injuries, and illness. I think Todd Kinchen may have also been on the roster for the basketball team in the late 80s.

One of my favorite Tigers ever

Todd was offered a Basketball scholarship by Alabama!

I saw Todd Kinchen miss a jump shot in a game. He did jump high though.

Neither one lasted more than a few weeks with basketball. Same with Todd Kinchen.
I believe Robert Royal tried briefly.
Chris Carrier filled in during the chicken pox outbreak.
Some football fans get so titillated over this and it never works out. It was more likely that Derrick Stingley could play wide receiver or Devin White play running back than any football player last more than a few weeks on the basketball team.

Had plays he knew for the position but it never materialized because 2020 was such a shite show. At least according to his dad, so take that with a grain of salt. Orgeron did promise them a chance to play both ways if the opportunity arose, I think that part was public.

Julius Peppers for UNC is the last player I recall having any success doing it. He basically came in as a rebounder but he saw playing time.

Bruce Ellington at South Carolina did both.
Basketball: 80 games, 11.2 PPG
Football: 38 games, 1,586 yards receiving, 16 TD

I wish him the best if he wants to try this. But it is so difficult and challenging today.
It seems like there are more things college athletes are expected to do outside of practice and somehow taking care of academics.
