fricking idiots in panic mode. Holy shite.
If we're trying to get into the top 3, that signifies taking a slower approach and potential step back before getting good.
It's the opposite of what they'd do if in panic mode, which would be to get an older and overpaid player.

It signifies that we have no plan, which is a panic move.
We're a top 4-6 seed in the West when healthy, not a rebuilding team.
And even if we were a rebuilding team, this draft sucks and over-paying for a top pick form this draft is majorly -EV. It's not logical.

As a reminder the last time this was said the draft produced Anthony Edwards, Tyrese Haliburton, Tyrese Maxey, Desmond Bane

All drafts will produce someone. Except 2000.
It is the perception that there are a lack of “safe” options.
Worst draft since the team moved here still produced Giannis but there was a lot of crap outside of him.

2020 was considered a weak draft. Wound up having quite a lot of solid players and even budding superstars. You just never know. There’s intriguing prospects in this class. Just maybe not on the same level as classes like last year

I’m cool with Duren + top 5 pick for BI + picks.
But that puts a lot of pressure on that 5th pick if it’s Dillingham, Sheppard, etc. to be that PG of the future. And with Willie’s track record with rookies, it’s kind of risky.
I still think a lineup of:
CJ
Trey
Herb
Z
Duren
Is better than
CJ
BI
Herb
Z
Val
In fact, it’s hard to imagine the lineup with Duren NOT being better. On paper, the lineup with BI and JV SHOULD be the better unit but statistics proved this just isn’t true. That group didn’t fit together. The group with Duren will and not just because Duren is a center Willie will actually use but because of the spacing with Trey. And if you hit on Shep or DHam then you’ve got Z, a rim protector for the future and your PG of the future.

Taking a step back to increase your ceiling is not a panic move- its actual what teams should do but don’t.

Debatable. Whats fact is without Zion we couldn’t even win a game against the thunder in first round.

Yes the draft is bad in terms of top end talent but that doesn’t mean there aren’t players that make our team better and they would be on a rookie contract. How are they over paying? You think BI for Duren and the fifth pick is overpaying?

Looking at Detroit , is Auser gettable as part of BI package ?
I recognize his shooting is atrocious . However , he is a ridiculous athlete with great size and tremendous defensively and attacks rebounds.
If we are playing the long game I like his potential better than Duren .

I would not be happy with a BI for #5 and Duren trade.

I tend to agree . Bigs are to the NBA what RBs are to the NFL.
You can get them and get them cheap and the difference bn them ( aside from the Bams, Jokic , elites) is not terribly huge .
Give me the guard or wing lottery ticket with tools that just hasnt clicked yet over Duren .

This team has more wings than Buffalo.
We could use a guard or a big more than a wing unless we get the next LeBron.

I don't like BIs game but Duren isn't anything special at all

It is when you're a top 4-6 seed and you're dealing a valuable asset. I mean we all hate on BI but the odds are that this pick will not come close to the player he is.

Moving yourself to the black hole of the middle is not what teams should do.

Yes. We should get at least another 1 and a swap in that deal.

We really don’t if BI gets moved .
Naji likely gone too.
My overall point however is if you are willing to potentially step back , play the powerball instead of the Louisiana lottery . Using yet another asset to grab a big is silly .

We did this last year- when we were healthy we were the 1 seed. Lets live in reality they were basically an 8 seed that got swept. We are pretty far away from the cream of the crop in the west.

So you can eventually make your ceiling higher and reach the top rather stuck in the play in. Again you assume we’re not in the black hole of the middle already. What do you call being in the play-in 3 years in a row?

Thats fair considering its not the strongest draft. The swap may be pushing it though.

I can get that and can see pels fairly asking for another pick/player. To me it really depends on if you like anyone at 5 and think that player helps this team.

Only due to historic injury luck that's bordering on a curse.
What will a draft pick in a very, very mid-draft do to change that?
Again, the odds are that this pick will not come close to the player BI is.

How does this increase the ceiling? That's the part you're stating without any backing.

When the injury gods favor us, we clearly are not.

Historically bad injury luck, bordering on a curse. The same issues this franchise has had since the CP3 era.

The swap may be pushing it though.
Duren ain't good.
The #5 pick isn't valuable.
