Fought a copperhead with the lawn mower today

I was mowing the yard and noticed my dog jumping around and barking at something. I figured it was a snake or mouse so I rode over to where he was barking. The scary part is I looked for about a minute or two before I saw the snake. It was small. Definitely not full grown. I lowered the deck and made short work of it. Gave my good boy some extra pets for that one.
Last week he had a chicken snake pinned up and I called him off. And about a month ago the bastard tore a king snake in half before I could get to him. But I didn’t get on to him. He was just doing his job protecting his family.
The copperhead did make me nervous though… they’re so well camouflaged and I could just see one of my kids walking through the yard never seeing it and getting bit.
I try to make sure my dog is always out there with them while they’re playing

So your dog attacks snakes that aren't poisonous but won't go after a poisonous one. That's a pretty smart dog to be able to tell the difference

I mean I’m sure he would’ve kept going had I not pulled up on the loud mower making him back off. Idk about your dog, but mine usually gets the hell out of the way of the lawn mower.

Be aware with the big cicada hatch this year.

You do know the ODB hates anyone and everyone that kills a snake. Does not matter what type.

And I’ve never really understood that? Seems like a bunch of soy boys.
I’m all about keeping the rat snakes and king snakes around. But if I see a venomous snake in my yard, it’s dead. No way I’m going to risk one of my kids, wife, or pets getting bit by one.

I usually just chop its tail off right behind the ears.

Those buggers will definitely ruin your day.

And I tried to word it in a way that the snake lovers wouldn’t be jumping down my throat. I honestly hate snakes. But I understand there are good ones and bad ones. If you threw a snake on me, I’d scream like a little girl. But I know that if a king snake is around, he means well and will take care of my venomous snake problem. Just don’t throw that fricker on me lol

There have been a few reports, even a couple in the Baton Rouge area. There seems to be a population down there that has gotten off schedule. Some of the same brood was documented in some of the same areas in 2015.

For the venomous ones, I grab the longest extension cord I have and haul the window AC unit out in the yard to dispatch them.

I actually catch rat snakes in my shed to put under my house. I used to have a bad rodent problem. No so much anymore. I've only seen one king snake around my property. He dove back into the thick brush before I could catch him.
One time a rat had babies in my shed in some old box. So the next day when I seen this huge rat snake I put the box up to him and he ate every one of those rats. It was awesome. There was 9 of them. So with a full bully I put him under the house. But I've never seen him again.

Even, a little, tiny, baby, yellow tail copperhead.
