Correct. Unless you’re buying OEM, I don’t care if you get it from Amazon, AZ, Oreillys, or wherever. It’s all the same stuff. If you can wait a couple days, I always order online. Very few things I buy OEM, unless I know the aftermarket is junk.

It happens regularly. I changed a power steering pump on my old Tahoe 4 times, the first 3 were supposedly AC/Delco, bought at O'Reily's....fourth came from Auto Zone....there were drastically different in appearance. Mentioned it O'Reliys and they said they had an issue with fake and counterfielt parts.

I’ve heard that the “smart charging” system (alternator only starts charging after traveling 10+ miles) has led to a lot of failures in these vehicles. Why do car companies feel the need to dork with stuff that has worked for a literal century? Oh wait, I know.

Same. Last time I suggested it to a co worker years ago on a late aughts Honda Accord and it worked. Not sure how long it worked for but gave her the ability to start saving to have it changed eventually.
Fricker was tucked in there though and had to reach down and was able to tap a small visible piece of it. Was enough though so made her happy. And good thing was she was in a position to put some things thru I needed done so helped expedite my stuff moving forward. Win-win

Back in the day things such as starters and alternators could be repaired. But we are now in a throwaway society. A lot of repair shops that used to rebuild these components have shut the doors because of this.

They claim it for fuel efficiency. GM is big on this. Same as their AFM. I always recommend they buy a canned tuner and disable it or have it flashed off by a tuner. It literally saves you nothing…

Yep. Y62 production started in 2010, Biden was then in the office of Vice President. It wasn't sold in North America until 2017, replacing the old Titan based 1st gen Armada.
These are generally reliable and comfortable vehicles. I have one. It's awesome for what it is. Need to pull the trigger to lift it and do some bulletproofing (charging system, trans cooler, skidplates/sliders).

Every time I'm at a red light near one of these new vehicles, I think about the damn starter going out. Not sure how anyone thought that exponentially increasing the number of start ups was not going to shorten the lifespan of certain parts.

Same here on those exposed starters on Ford and Chevys.

toyota did this as well, it is under the intake manifold so the whole top of the engine must be removed just to get to the starter
some genius decided putting it inside the engine, keeps it clean, and away from the heat of the exhaust so it lasts longer

and its just a coincidence that it gets you just passed the 6 yr warranty periods, its not like its planned to fail and cost you nearly $1,000, but it is
also, most of those expensive starters now have rebuild kits made for them with new brushes and bearings in the kit. its easy to replace and once that is done its good as new again. once the starter is out and sitting on the bench so you can take it apart, its easy to replace those wearable parts

Mid-90's Jaguar XJ6's had an alternator that was on the bottom driver's side of the engine bay. You had to shove the AC compressor and attachments aside, remove a smog pump, and thread it carefully up and out. There was a plate below the alternator so you could not take it out through the bottom. It was a huge pain in the butt.

Son's alternator went out on 2005 KIA Sportage...it was his high school can inherited from us. Thought it'd be a good learning experience for me to show him how its done. Alternator was in plan sight. and easy to get loose. Impossible to get out of the engine compartment. I tried everything. Took the passenger side wheel off, the quater panel, wheel well...damn thing would not clear the engine compartment. Put it all back together and called a KIA dealer in El Paso....service department....dude sent me a KIA service bulletin....first step? REMOVE ENGINE. Seriously, they suggesting pulling the engine. I took the motor mount off on the passenger side and jacked the engine up about 2 inches and managed to get the alternator out and back in. Remove the engine. Good lord....
