Are they pretty much done at this point? I don't know a single person with kids in the boyscouts. That's not to say there aren't kids in it, but the numbers have to be way down. They sent that ship sailing years ago.

Is there an alternative organization that promotes the traditional outdoors/scouting for boys?

If your kid is an Eagle Scout at 13, I’m not so sure it was “earned”
Granted, I slacked and made Eagle right before my 18th birthday, but there’s no way a 13 year old should be an Eagle if the program was run properly.

Boys 2 Men should be renamed Them 2 Them.

Maybe they can add a drag show merit badge, too.

I mean, when they are kids let it be co-ed, and then as they age let there be a boys wing and a girls wing of scouts. Camping, the outdoors...that's for everyone.
This is how it is setup right now. Cubs are coed, Troop level is single sex. There are brother/sister troops where they do events together if they want to do events together, but it is two separate troops with separate leadership.

The problem, as my FIL put it, is that the Girl Scouts don’t really do the outdoorsy/camping thing the boys do because not a lot of the leaders like doing it, but some girls do like the camping, or have fathers that would prefer they learn something useful
This is correct. Girl Scouts focuses more on entrepreneurship. My soon to be 9yr.old is a Girl Scout and a Cub Scout.

The GS are bigly mad. They are for keeping it gender separate and a lock on their cookie sales. I'm not kidding.

Because those girls want to do outdoor activities and there are not any in Girl Scouts.
Unfortunately, you cannot get mom’s to volunteer to go camping. They don’t want to be outside.
Unless you have at least 2 mom’s at every camp out - you can’t have any girls attend.
I see the dilemma and I feel bad for those rare girls who can’t participate in the activity they love (outdoors).
But the dumb part is to admit girls to Boy Scouts and destroy the organization so that no one can develop character and enjoy outdoor independence.
I hate it all. A great program ruined with an emotional response.
There are some GS groups that are very outdoors oriented. There are a lot of moms that really enjoy camping. I volunteer with some amazing moms getting out there in the outdoors and doing all the high adventure stuff with their kids in both the GS and BSA organizations.
The big problem is the competition for kids time with all the different activities out there. BSA saw the writing on the wall that they needed to adapt to keep the organization going. They don't have cookie sales where you don't really even need the kids anymore to keep the organization going like Girl Scouts. BSA chose to become a family organization where the entire family can be under one roof and so families don't have to be separated and make it harder for them to schedule all the activities.
The problem in America is this should have been one organization. In England the Girl Guides and Boy Scouts are the same organization and it was easy for them to setup one program and offer both. Here in the states, two organizations built the same program and will not work together. Hell GS sued BSA for using the word Scout and Scouting without the word Boy before it. They lost.

That’s exactly how it is set up.
My 11 year old just did her crossover this week.
She will now be in an all girls troop.

You do know that once you hit troop level that the sexes are separated, right?

This is literally exactly how it’s currently set up.
Co-Ed on the pack level and split on the troop level.

Your son should be proud and you of him, but yeah, why rush to Eagle at 13? What's he going to do for the next 4-5 years?

Exactly. Being able to camp out with the guys...even if it's just sitting around the fire and telling fart jokes...not having to worry about everything you say because there are girls around... priceless
Boy Scout Troops (I refuse to call it Scouts BSA) is still single-sex. There are boy troops and girl troops, so this can still happen.
Cut Scout Packs (up to 5th grade) are co-ed, but most camping there is family camping anyways.

Pushing kids to sell cookies is NOT entreprenership, I don't care how they spin it.
And even if it was... how many 9 year olds are interested in that?

I was an eagle scout, my mom was my cub scout leader. Ashamed of what it has become.
