Literally no one is saying that.
Then what the frick are you saying?

This thread isn’t saying “youth today have it impossible. It’s impossible to succeed.”

It’s simply saying it’s harder and worse financially than before. Based on factual data

l’ve got a great life, wonderful wife, great kids and getting ready to retire because we made good decisions. I see lots of people who would do a lot better in their lives if they listened occasionally.

You got something other than bitching?

Good for you. No one is trying to take this away from you.

Eh, maybe, maybe not.

OP literally says the economy is going to crash because young people won't be able to afford anything:

quote:

In my opinion a massive recession or depression is not far out simply due to the fact that the younger generation will no longer afford anything at all. When no one can afford anything businesses collapse, schools enrollment drops, housing prices tank, it's typically terrible for the economy.

graduate high school. Not college, high school. Lots of excellent opportunities out there that don’t require college. I don’t have a degree, and I’m retiring with no debt because I did both one, 2 and to follow…3.

This is where you are out of touch.

High school graduation rates are at 91% now. The bar has been raised. There are very few good opportunities for high school graduates now. Is trade school an opportunity? Yes, but that's not what you said.

If you do get a decent job with just a HS diploma you are going to find yourself being passed up on promotions by those with college degrees. You can't really swap jobs either, because with HR being mostly automated, resumes that don't include a degree will get sorted into the trash.

And yet when they make good decisions instead of bad ones is it?

My kids certainly aren’t having it harder than my wife and I. More because my wife drilled it into their thick skulls than me admittedly.

This is becoming less and less true as college degrees aren't as valued as they used to be, outside of specific industries.

I look for that trend to continue.

Yes!

No matter what decisions young people make, even if they become a billionaire, they are in a worse financial economy than those before them

what an asinine response. greater houston is the size of Massachusetts. I think he can narrow it down just a smidge. Otherwise i may pick something on the west side and i'll get criticized because it's too far away and be told im a boomer that hates yoots!!!. i want to be as specific as possible so we can see what we're dealing with.

but generally your response fits your ilk. Whenever someone wants to help or give advice, you move the goalposts. It's always someone else's fault.

What are you talking about? I'm the one who told him the number of houses available in Houston for under $200k. It's not a small number.

I don’t think anyone is saying that. What’s been pretty consistent throughout this thread is that people want less government overreach, not more. Fed Government forming the department of education resulted in the proliferation spending on administrators and non teaching roles.
Fed Gov backing college student loans have resulted in massive bloat at universities, significant rise in the administrative staffs, and trillions of dollars in student loan debt. Fed Gov getting involved in housing has resulted in section 8 housing and guaranteed income to landlords despite how shitty the housing is.

Basically, by appointing individuals that have no personal skin in the game, government makes everything more expensive and honestly, less effective.

I didn’t say a trade wasn’t an option. I said there’s a tremendous amount of waste in college, and it’s impossible to argue otherwise.

As for a 91% graduation rate, how many times do we hear of schools graduating people who can’t do 8th grade math? The bar has definitely been lowered there.

I haven’t seen an HVAC tech get passed over yet. Seen what one of those makes?

I get you want the job you want. Life doesn’t necessarily say “great, no problem”.

Lemons, lemonade.

Buying a house in a safe part of down close to city centers with an average paying job

That ship has sailed but it was the American dream not long ago

Look there is 1000 threads a day on the political talk echoing exactly that. With the same posters in here posting it. But for some reason in these threads they do a 180 and deny it

But their situation doesn’t have to be worse.

Make good decisions and they’re significantly more likely to thrive in bad financial situations than those who can’t be bothered to think about it.

Xer here. You have it harder. But I really don't give a shite. You'll be better for it later. And by later I mean around 2030.

Feel better?
