re: How much of a joke is it that Star Wars was ever thought to be equal to Lord of the Rings?

You just don’t know what you’re talking about there. Sorry, but you don’t, but I do appreciate the advocation. Maybe I should have put it a bit kinder, but I do have to stand up for Peter when people shite all over him for the Hobbit prequels since I think he’s the only person that held it together from being a total disaster.

My main point is he had enough clout to do what he wanted and if he didn't get his way he should have walked away. I know he was banking on Del Toro to do it and put him in a spot when he backed out but one would think PJ could do what he wanted. Maybe not.
And i am sure he appreciates that.
It's going to be tough to go on knowing this. It's good to have sexless nerds like you to put me in my place. I salute you.

Well he didn’t, and if he did the Hobbit trilogy would have been pure gibberish and the fans would have trashed him for walking away and not saving the project. Regardless of what he did, many would paint Peter Jackson as the bad guy here.

I don’t remember any pitchforks outside of Guillermo del Toro’s house when he walked away from The Hobbit. The initial deal was for 2 movies and Jackson added the third because he thought he had enough story to tell.

I’m pretty sure as that clip shows that he said the exact opposite. You can tell with the final battle that they had no idea what they were doing in it. The only real thing that was important there was to give Thorin an impactful death, which they succeeded on that front.

It is only at the end of a shoot that you finally get the chance to sit down and have a look at the film you have made,” Jackson wrote. “Recently Fran [Walsh], Phil[lippa Boyens] and I did just this when we watched for the first time an early cut of the first movie — and a large chunk of the second. We were really pleased with the way the story was coming together, in particular, the strength of the characters and the cast who have brought them to life. All of which gave rise to a simple question: do we take this chance to tell more of the tale? And the answer from our perspective as the filmmakers, and as fans, was an unreserved ‘yes.’

Yeah, Peter may have said that at the time, but quickly fessed up with how Part 3 ended.

Holy shite. This -
This what I said in my previous post. You went off telling me I know jack shite. Yet this is what PJ said. Sounds like he had creative freedom.
Way to move the goal post. I wonder if Peter said this after the poor responses to the movies.

The lotr universe got 3 shitty movies some shitty animated movies and the shitty amazon series.
Are you one of the ones that cried everyday over the rings of power?
How can you throw all the star wars in there and completely overlook the lotr stuff you absolutely hated?

That’s an understatement. Dude had a complete mental breakdown every week Bezos dropped an episode and I don’t even think he was even watching them. Season 2 is going to be entertaining to say the least

Actually I swore it off and didn’t watch it. And from what everyone has told me, it was a fricking dumpster fire as expected.

Because those didn’t directly harm the original source material and can be disregarded completely.

When my high school girlfriend gave me The Hobbit to read. I thought it was silly and stopped right there.
In all fairness I must confess that I never could convince myself to read A Somg of Cire and I e. Maybe fantasy
fiction isn’t my jam.

For those of us who lived through both original movie trilogies, Star Wars was the first.
When LOTR came out, the comparisons started, because they are both epic fantasy trilogies at the top of their respective genres, and both elevated those genres in public perception and cultural significance.
I resemble that remark.
SW certainly got far more fanfare and attention. It's sad to see what was once so fun and encompassing as Star Wars turn into a bitter sad husk of its former glory. The hysteria from Star Wars, for its time, might only be compared to that of The Beatles. (which was before my time) During the late 70's, post-Vietnam era, the world needed something amazing and new. I think that's in part what helped make SW into the success it became.
Tolkien reigns supreme in the fantasy genre. Peter Jackson's movies, though not perfect, gave fans so much of the spirit of Tolkien.
While both trilogies were phenomena in their own rights, I'd say SW caused more pop culture hype while Peter Jackson's LOTR was a superior movie and story.

Actually, the original Star Wars trilogy (which the reason for sequels) collectively earned $999,027,284.
The Lord of the Rings trilogy original release earned $2,945,400,000.
…you’re a bit off.
