What’s the rule for blocking vehicles traveling at a high rate of speed on a sidewalk?
exactly.
1. what is the posted limit here?
2. how was the cop supposed to guess Splat the Wonder Moron was going 100mph and couldn't stop in time?
cop literally saw someone coming down the hill about to run into people laying on the ground and moved into that lane to protect them...you think the cop had time to notice that Splat was going 100mph?

How would there be a posted speed limit on a walking/biking path? For the bikes?
Just checked the website for that park. There are no legal trails for motorized vehicles. None.

Have you ever watched cops trying to stop a motorcycle running at top speed. They do not throw up obstacles or try to bump stop them. For they know that would be certain death.
He didn’t pull into the other lane to make a traffic stop. He pulled into the other lane to protect the innocent pedestrians who were about to get plowed by the guy on the ATV illegally hauling arse on a bike/walking path. He even left room for the ATV to go behind him.
Some of y’all are dense.

I haven't read the whole thread but looks like they are at lease a couple of children in the last group the cop passes. They are blacked out of the video. If the idiot ATV rider wasn't able to safely stop for a cop car with flashing lights on without seriously injuring himself then how we would he stop before mowing down those kids?

I mean at some point common sense has to come to play for you fricking people
Well let’s try some common sense and critical thought:
Yes the ATV was in the wrong by being on the walking-bike path. There should have been consequences.
However. Cop was in the wrong too.
Just because a cop witnesses a misdemeanor offense, that doesn’t clear him of wrongdoing to stop it. Name an instance where a cop can just cut in front of another oncoming vehicle suddenly if that vehicle is currently guilty of nothing but a simple traffic infraction.
If you see a speeding vehicle in a residential neighborhood with pedestrians… does that make it legal for you to turn in front of them to stop them?
If a motorcycle jumps up onto a sidewalk to get around a vehicle.. can you just walk up and shove them over?
If you see protesters blocking a road and there is an ambulance with its lights and sirens on that is being held up… can you run through the protesters to open up a lane?
Hell… if someone blows through a yield sign and you have time and space to avoid collision with them, can you still hit them and claim it their fault because of the original infraction?
Anyone that claims that “the ATV should have stopped” has never owned one. That dude couldn’t stop at that speed with all terrain tires on it.
This is a both at fault scenario.

Cop is a damn hero. 0 sympathies for the a-hole barreling down a walking path at 100mph
i'm going with Splat saw the cop car and lights and thought to himself "no way he can turn around and nab me at this speed" and was already planning his escape through the trails
Too bad, so sad. FAFO, Splat. I hope he broke every bone in his body.

Not disagreeing with the possible prevention of a bad outcome.
But if you run though those protestors blocking that ambulance.. seriously maim them.. and the hospital openly says you saved the life of the person in the ambulance because 5 minutes longer and they would have been dead… are you still in cuffs or not?

Don’t do stupid shite and then blame officers cause you are a dumb arse

BIG difference between being a douche and supergluing yourself to I-10 and a family out biking on a closed trail and their kid fell off their bike wouldn't you say?

What do you mean, cops cut out in traffic to stop people all the time? Cops block traffic all the time?
Have you ever heard of a crossing guard at school?
The issue here wasn't the cops move, the issue was that the ATV rider was going SO fast he couldn't stop. The cop really would not have been able to determine the ATV riders speed until it was too late.
So not only was the ATV rider now supposed to be there, he was going uncontrollably fast.

Is it? according to the law?
Again. Im not saying the ATV guy needs any sympathy here. But what does the law say?

why??he blocked the road forcing the accident
He blocked one lane not both. Should be an IQ test to be on a jury

I’m not talking about merely stopping traffic.
I’m talking about witnessing a speeding driver… or better yet… a motorcycle and then abruptly cutting in front of them to stop them.

Anyone blaming the ATV rider is a cop-loving arse-kisser. Deliberately wrecking the ATV rider should be met with criminal charges and a massive lawsuit.
If he cant avoid a police cruiser with flashing lights, what do you think he would have done to the children on bicycles? You need to rethink how you process things and what constitutes a good decision and a bad decision.

frick that atv. cop did what needed be done.

The police officer didn’t abruptly cut off the idiot on the ATV breaking the law and endangering kids.

The red line below is where the police cruiser’s front bumper was when he stopped:
The black boxes appear to be children. The cop had his lights on and gave the ATV rider room to go behind him.
If you still don’t get it, there’s no point arguing.
ETA: With how fast that ATV was moving, the cop might have given him the only chance to avoid tragedy by moving into the left lane. There’s no way that guy threads the needle between the people and the police car otherwise.
