Emotional support animals

I’m a psychiatrist and I must get 10 requests a month from patients to send them an emotional support animal letter. Seems to be the new fad this year and it’s about as annoying as people claiming that they have ADHD or are on the autism spectrum.. Your dog didn’t consent to becoming a golem for all of your projected angst, fear and avoidance. Am I the only one who sees this as an exploitative means of avoiding the uncomfortable emotions we need to confront in order to grow?
And I’m not referring to actual service animals who calm down vets having a flashback or bark when a girl has a seizure. I’m talking about the blue haired pansexual gen z er who has anxiety, a dog and a pissed off landlord who just discovered said dog.
Please tell me I’m not the only one who finds this trend asinine.

You really had to go here as opposed to just calling these people pussies?

Vet here that sees a lot of these “emotional support” dogs and most of them are as anxious and crazy as their owners. Especially since the pandemic and none of them were socialized.

When I have my student loan debt paid off and a nice nest egg, the gloves are coming off.. until then, I have kids to feed and provide health insurance lol. This field has become the customer service industry. It’s sickening

I'm also a psychiatrist. I disagree with OP

I’m not one of those man. I definitely don’t fit the stereotype of people in this very woke liberal field

So you don’t get ESA requests from patients trying to avoid getting kicked out of their apartments totally abusing this loophole?
And out of curiosity, what do you disagree with?

Maybe they just need a doctor’s note to take the doggy into the grocery store.

Can you write me a letter for a female support asian? Back massages and luv me long time should be a requirement as well.

They are trying to avoid getting denied an apartment lease or having to pay fees

It’s been way longer than just this year.

A good psychiatrist doesn't use ESA requests, we all use SOT requests.

It’s so they can have restricted breeds or just animals in general in a no pet rental situation.
From a person who has been in property management way too long.
It is amazing that only the breeds that aren’t allowed provide comfort.

Sure dude, when I am burned out and no longer care about my medical license and go into HVAC, that will be the final letter I write. Go out with a bang

I’ve seen a lot of that too. That or getting out of paying a pet fee
