Here is a sit rep of reported enemy positions just before the ten o'clock hour on this day, April 30, 2024.*

*All locations are approximate due to the natural mobility of the enemy and the haphazard reporting of concerned parties under threat.

-There is no order to retreat as of this report. Repeat, the order is to turn off outside lights, put the women and children to bed, open a bottle, and hold the lines.

Never experienced a termite swarm, so I duck duck go'd it and found this neat passage...

quote:

WHY DO TERMITES SWARM?
quote:

Swarming termites, also known as alates, are the reproductive members of a termite colony.

While most of the members in a colony are worker termites that damage structures as they feed, the sole purpose of the alates is to leave the colony, reproduce and sustain their species.

Alates do not bite, sting or even eat wood, and simply letting your customer know that up front can lower anxiety levels substantially.

quote:

As alates get ready to swarm, they first prepare a swarm tube for a “launch site” and then wait patiently for the right conditions to ensure their highest probability of survival.

They swarm into the air from hidden areas within the colony with each individual swarmer taking a brief flight that may only last a few seconds.

They are not strong fliers, so after a short flight, they land, break their wings from their bodies and pair with a mating partner.

The future queen leads the way traveling on foot to find a place to start a new colony as the king faithfully follows her to their new home.

They were swarming pretty hard around Bayou Manchac and I-10 Sunday night. I was walking the dog as the sun was setting, thinking how nice of a night it was. Then when the sun went down, pretty much within 5 minutes or one block of walking, I was covered in them.

Termites swarm every year at this time. Why are we acting like it’s a phenomenon?

Saw a couple flying around Sunday night. Last night they were swarming pretty good in the Dutchtown area.

This years crop of Termites seems fatter than normal. They must be from Mississippi or stopped off at Piccadilly on their way in.

Literally 100% of Baton Rouge is coated. I drove from Beaver Creek to around Seigen and they were swarming the entire way. Looks like they’re swarming at LSU as well.

They are in Iberville.

I cut the lights out. Nearest neighbor has his floods on full power.

He can deal with it.

Yes. Town Center area. Was grilling outside, and they started swarming just as I got done. Turned all exterior lights off and killed the few that came inside when I opened the door. I was planning on enjoying the remainder of the baseball game on the patio TV, but the termites rained on my parade.
