quote:So when other teams make midseason trades and clearly get better, they just...get better.
How many midseason trades besides desperately trading for CJ have we made?
How many teams BETTER than us make mid season trades every year to get BETTER?
But when we make a midseason trade and clearly get better, it's not that we got better, it's just a desperate trade.
Come no, now.

The Knicks?
I'm not going to distinguish between mid-season or off-season trades. Some teams have been more aggressive in turning over their rosters. The Knicks deal involved them trading some good young players they liked to get a piece that fit. Dallas gave up mainly picks and future cap flexibility to get Washington and Gafford and it propelled them to the 5th seed (we'll see if it goes much further). The Lakers deal at the deadline last year gave them a major, if short-lived, boost to the WCF. Even OKC made a move for Gordon Hayward, though he has been a non-factor for them.
I was ok with the Pels standing pat this year (though I liked the idea of trading Brandon in a deal for Murray & Capella or Okongwu). The organization wanted to get a look at the roster as was and we were winning. Hard to break things up under those circumstances IRL. But five years in and with a good sample size on the status quo, for me there are no excuses for not making moves this summer. You know where you stand in the West. There are no perfect deals only trade offs. Make some because nothing is worse than NBA purgatory.

That's a surefire way to frick up a good thing imo.

It would be cool if the team name were on the block.
3 team trade.
We change our name to the New Orleans North.
We become the New Orleans Jazz
Utah becomes the Raptors. Lots of fossils in Utah.
Toronto becomes the Toronto North and they get to wear those sweet jerseys.

All of this hope that griffin will do something positive is gonna leave a whole lot of people really disappointed.

Don’t forget we could sweeten a BI deal by adding Willie Green to it.

Sexton and Lauri for BI?
Why would Utah do any deal with BI and Lauri?
Posted on 4/30/24 at 10:33 pm to Fun Bunch
The Murray + Center deal for BI and a 1st was where i would’ve made my move..CJ going back to his natural catch and shoot position at the 2 with Trey stepping into that staring role at the 3. But i get the hesitation - we were on a roll but mannn.
Look, just get a PG this summer. Any of these may work IN THEIR RESPECTIVE ROLES:
Chris Paul - honestly, what would it realistically take? He on a no guaranteed 30mil deal for next yr..that ain’t happening. Imagine him being the Mike Conley of our squad..it would be perfect. He’s a floor general who will murder opposing defenses if they sag.
Gabe Vincent - LA may try to accumulate picks to use in a different trade if they run it back.
Colin Sexton - he’s my pick, go get him.
OR
Jordan Clarkson - not sure if he’s a fit but he can absolutely score from the PG position.
VanFleet? Extremely expensive but would you take him if available for CJ or BI?
Just get a legit point guard to orchestrate the offense and it’ll all come together.

He also doesn't fit what you asked for in a point guard. Probably because he really doesn't do anything well.

The PG won't matter if we don't have an offense with choices.

The amount of 1sts you'd have to add to just get Lauri would make your head spin.
But yes, Lauri would be one of my dream gets.

Not really. Lauri is expiring also. Utah might not even want to give him the max because he’s not durable at all. The most games he ever played was 67 in his rookie year.
Kessler is an easy get because Hardy and him doesn’t see eye to eye supposedly.
Sexton might too because of how much of a short leash he has and the inconsistent minutes he gets.

Jazz ownership values Lauri as one of the premier players in the NBA. The bozos in here don't get that

Did you read anything about their end of the season interviews?
if that's how they felt about him, then they would have said that, not basically say we are interested in tanking next year like they did.
