On this day 79 years ago, Adolf Hitler and his wife Eva Braun committed suicide:
quote:
Europe is broken, its cities in ruins and millions have died in war and genocide. The world has risen against the Nazi threat, and now the Nazi leader cowers in a bunker under Berlin - this is how Adolf Hitler's last 15 weeks unfold, and why he ultimately chooses suicide to escape responsibility for his actions.

Or did he fake it & escape to Argentina?
ETA: In 1952, President Dwight D. Eisenhower was quoted as saying: “We have been unable to unearth not one bit of tangible evidence of Hitler’s death. Many people believe that Hitler escaped from Berlin.”

I wonder what would have happened if we saved the death camp prisoners but left him to keep battling the soviets.

If you haven’t seen the movie Downfall, I highly recommend it.

I just relistened to Ghosts of the Ostfront. What a brutal front, on both sides.
An absolute waste of life.
An absolute waste of life.

imagine actually believing that he "died" in that bunker. you must also think weve been to the moon and that the earth is round

We've all seen the Steiner rant, but the full movie is definitely worth watching.

What’s scary is his people, seeing all of this unfold and the inevitable end to the war, still pledged immediate loyalty to him until he offed himself.
Brainwashed.

Germans were pissed off at the world, they were royally fricked over at the end of WWI and he led them back to prosperity.

I wouldn’t necessarily call 1945 Germany prosperous

Still there were no good reasons to send thousands of Germans to the concentration camps.

Some believe he lived until 1960s

No and don’t get me wrong, what he did was incredibly evil.

"Believes the government's story"? If any / either/all of the Allies' faked his death story, how does that reconcile with absolutely no action in looking for him on the part of Simon Wiesenthal? There is no way he would have gone along with anything to do with allowing Hitler to escape. There is no way his silence could be bought & he would know if that was true, or even if there were simple rumors.

If only his hate for the Bolsheviks could have waited until after the Final Solution.
