Breaking away from BR is great and all.... But I think it's delusional to think they're magically going to have good public schools. The quality students they need aren't going to get pulled out of St Jude & St George to go to these public schools and the elements that make EBR public schools bad are going to fill their schools up. Nothing more American than determining the future of your government, but this school experiment is going to be a cluster with little improvement.

If you don’t start somewhere you never start. So I guess everyone should just bend the knee to the F minus shitshow of EBR school system?

No one "broke away". An unincorporated area formed a new city.

I don't kno anyone that would pull their kids out of private school to send their kids to public school, no matter how good the school. They would live in Ascension if thats what they wanted. So you have all the poors and criminal elements still filling these schools. I trusly hope they do suceed though!

village st george is the neighborhood by the church, not a community
Not according to the US census.
Village St George
In 2010 there were 7014 residents in VSG.
It’s been around for decades.

Over time some will. Folks in Central and Zachary did it already.

as mentioned, there was no "breakaway"....you can't breakaway from something you've never been a part of...It's amazing how many people can't comprehend this
as for having good public schools, there certainly will be a non-neglible amount of students who leave private schools for the public ones if they improve...I have quite a few familiy members in the private school system (teacher, principal, admin) so am well aware of how many students are there not necessarily for the religious reasons, but for lack of better alternatives and whose parents are stretched financially...if you give them a cheaper/free alternative they will take it
but even regardless of how many that is, having good public schools is less about going get "quality" students as much as it is about removing the dysfunctional element (both students and admin) that holds back educating the students they already have...the "better" teachers will flee the EBR schools in droves to work in "better" schools in SG

A lot of people switched from St Alphonsus and Redemptorist to Central schools.

I went from private to Central High, but well before Central incorporated. Our youngest went from private to public (magnet) for high school. She wanted to move.

SG leaders will hold a press conference tomorrow at 10:30
quote:
According to the statement, The St. George Transition District will hold a press conference to discuss the ruling, the next steps, and answer questions on Monday, April 29, 2024, at 10:30 a.m. at the St. George Fire Department Headquarters.
"The Louisiana Supreme Court ruling concludes an almost thirteen-year process where thousands of volunteers dedicated their time, energy, and resources to incorporate the City of St. George in hopes of better government and local control," the statement continued.

It’s been called that since at least the 80s. Village St. George grocery (which is now just Village Grocery) is on Perkins and Potwan (although now it’s in a new building).
Edit: At least 1966 according to the St. George Fire Department (when they opened the first St. George Station on Perkins).
quote:
How did you get the name "St. George"? Are you named after the church?
The Department was originally chartered in 1966 as the "Village St. George Volunteer Fire Department and Social Club." So, the original "St. George" was named after the neighborhood off Perkins Road which it was formed to protect and where many of its founders lived. By all accounts, the subdivision was named after the church. LINK
The neighborhood behind St. George Church is Audubon Terrace.

Build it in classical Columbian architecture style as a big frick your to ugly Baton Rouge city hall

quote:This is what I am wondering about as a (let’s just say it how it is) white person still in Baton Rouge proper. Has my property value effectively peaked and it’s time to uproot and get the hell out or will the changes not be as noticeable and more localized to the parts of town that are already in the gutter.
It’s sad that Baton Rouge let it get to this because I’m not sure that letting Baton Rouge proper descend into the abyss is the best thing for anyone and it seems likely with the loss of that revenue.

Same. Went to St Alphonsus & Redemptorist then switched to central Sophomore year. C/O 91 so well before the incorporation as well.
