My guess is this entire pile of information is off.
Not shocking when it's coming from a poli-sci major who works for CNN and is trying to get clicks from info he extracted from their public filing.

Fords cap ex % of revenue hasnt changed much at all over the last several years.
It was lower last year than in 2019.
Yes, the amount they expense changes, but so does their revenues.
They made less in 2020 so they spent less but kept their % between 4.5-4.9 of their revenues.

EVs are the ultimate solution to a problem that never existed.

Prices of $1,500 or more for a bare taillight assembly are common on their premium trim trucks.
The headlight assembly, with bulbs, for a 2004 Cadillac CTS was $1500 twenty years ago.
*I can't believe 2004 was 20 years ago....

A lot of the money lost was due to investing in technology to make the cars, not due to them selling the cars for 40k less than the parts cost to build them.

Could this also be leading to other cars being more expensive? Offsetting some of their losses by raising the prices on ICE vehicles?
They mostly do this to pull up a bunch of capex depreciation and R&D expense to offset profits from other business units so they don't have to pay taxes.
And take all the government subsidies in the form of $$$ stolen from taxpayers to prop up this failed agenda.
I know you have a vested interest in the EV scam, but just be honest. If the government wasn't stealing our tax money to fund this EV bullshite, Ford, and all the other manufacturers of these shitboxes would not be building 10% of the number they are pushing out of their plants to sit on the lot and go stale, because...
NOBODY WANTS THEM!!!

Yes but they SAID it was a problem because their truth is climate change will kill us all so we are being forced to live their truth.
Comply or die and comply and slowly die are two primary options many companies have these days.

I'm not sure you understand how EV subsidies work.

Taxpayers pay for subsidies on electric cars and if they still aren't profitable they'll just use our tax dollars to bail them out.
Again.
Again.

the IRS sends $7500 in cash to the dealership. Where do you think that cash comes from?

From the purchasers tax burden. This isn't complicated.

The only thing that changed with the IRA was a focus on domestic content and the tax credits became transferable and can be taken over more than the year of sale. It's still just a tax credit and nothing more. No different than writing off your mortgage tax.
The article you posted doesn't explain the mechanics or issues with transferability. The dealership or manufacturer is essentially buying the credit at 1:1 from the consumer. That assumes they are willing to take it and have the tax liability. Some do, and some don't.

Maybe Ford can save some money by putting drain tubes on fuel injectors instead of replacing them. Gasoline dripping on a hot engine?
