Speed Queen is the way to go. Don't buy the combo or front end loader. Go with the old school top loader.

Just buy a Speed Queen, and be done with it. Doesn't come with all the fancy gadgetry and lights, but will last you forever.

Damn this board...I am in the same boat.
I bought el cheapo Roper about 7-8 years ago and it died yesterday.
It looks like the agitator or drive belt is broken.
Didn't have time to diagnose. If it is the drive belt it is an easy fix. If it is something else, I will probably get a new one.

We have had Maytag washer (top loader) & dryer since 2016 and no issues at all & still very quiet.

They all suck. Buying the from the Lowes/Home Depot/Conns/Best Buys of the world also suck.
Go cheapest you can get because when they go out, they are throw away. You can't get them repaired.
Do NOT buy the warranty, especially from Assurant (sp?).
Top Load. No electronics if you can find them.
I have no experience with Speed Queen, but most people that have them love them.
The Maytags/Kenmores/Whirlpools/GEs/LGs/Samsungs of the world all use direct drive systems and they will fail. If you are lucky, you'll get 3-5 years out of them.

We got this because our washer/dryer space was very limited and this was a bit easier to store than stacking two separate units.
LG - 5.0 Cu. Ft. HE Smart Front Load Washer and 7.4 Cu. Ft. Electric Dryer WashTower with Steam and Center Control - Black Steel
We love it. Have had it for almost two years and zero complaints. It does not have the bad smells that standard front loaders have. It dries fairly well. Washes very well. It's quiet.
I don't get the Speed Queen fanboy mentality. Front loaders are better for your clothing and more efficient with your water/electricity. They work fine. You can find a bad top loader washer just as easily as a front loading washer. You're talking about machines that run water, run a very hot heating element, spin and shake. It should be no surprise if something breaks. Just don't overload your washer and don't overload your dryer.
That being said, do NOT buy a Samsung unless it's a phone or TV.

stay away from front load washers and the smart washer/dryers.
Get yourself a top load washer from maytag and it will last you a long time

Have a whirlpool cabrio set that has lasted me 6 years so far
I hesitate to write this as they will probably break now.

Anything not named Speed Queen.
End of discussion.

A Dial and an Agitator. No fancy crap.

It’s more about the type rather than brand. HE washers suck because they don’t use enough water and have no agitator. They stink and make laundry stink. We like our SPEED QUEEN.

We second the advice for speed queen. If you don’t one of those, don’t buy anything HE or especially front load.

When you and yours die, the kids will fight over the Speed Queen. Best to specify in the will!

I’ve found that the highest dollar brands ( LG, Samsung) need the most work. Kind of like Ferraris and Rolex. I have GE brand and never any issues.
