The next crop of New Orleans Saints get called starting tonight as the NFL Draft begins... this season in Detroit.
Saints 2024 Draft Picks:
Round 1 - Pick 14 - 14 Overall | Taliese Fuaga, OT, Oregon St.
Round 2 - Pick 9 - 41 Overall | Ga'Quincy "Kool-Aid" McKinstry, CB, Alabama Trade 1
Round 5 - Pick 15 - 150 Overall | Spencer Rattler, QB, South Carolina
Round 5 - Pick 35 - 170 Overall | Jerrod "Bub" Means, WR, Pittsburgh
Round 5 - Pick 40 - 175 Overall | Jaylan Ford, LB, Texas
Round 6 - Pick 23 - 199 Overall | Khristian Boyd, DT, Northern Iowa
Round 7 - Pick 19 - 239 Overall | Josiah Ezirim, OT, Eastern Kentucky
Saints In-Draft Trades:
Trade 1 - Round 2 w/ Green Bay Packers:
Saints Receive:
Round 2 - Pick 9 - 41 Overall (selected "Kool-Aid" McKinstry)
Packers Receive:
Round 2 - Pick 13 - 45 Overall (selected Edgerrin Cooper)
Round 5 - Pick 33 - 168 Overall (traded to the Buffalo Bills)
Round 6 - Pick 14 - 190 Overall (traded to the Philadelphia Eagles)
The Missing Draft Picks:
Round 2 - The Saints should be picking #50 overall, but that pick belongs to the Eagles to start the draft due to a massive draft week trade in 2022 that saw the Eagles send the Saints the #16 & #19 overall picks (as well as a 2022 6th round pick which was taken away by the NFL for COVID guideline violations)
The Saints used the 16th pick as part of another trade... this one with the Redskins/Football Team/Commanders to move up to 11th overall and draft Chris Olave
The Saints used the 19th pick to draft Trevor Penning
Round 3 - The Saints should be picking #81 overall, but that pick belongs to the Seattle Seahawks to start the draft. That pick went from the Saints to the Denver Broncos in the Sean Payton trade, but the Broncos sent it to Seattle to get a 3rd round pick last year which netted Denver CB Riley Moss
Round 4 - The Saints should be picking #116 overall, but that pick belongs to the Jacksonville Jaguars to start the draft as it was used as part of a package to move up and draft Jake Haener
Round 7 - The Saints should be picking #238 overall, but that pick belongs to the Houston Texans to start the draft as it was used to trade for Mark Ingram straight up

I definitely feel like the Saints should not reach if there are a run of tackles drafted before we pick at 14. I want to get the best tackle on the board, but I’m not against trading back and netting some more picks in the process. As others have said, I’m not exactly keen on the idea on the Saints trading UP for an O-lineman.
Some have flirted with the idea of the Saints drafting Bowers if he is there at #14, but I doubt they would take him, even though he could immediately provide a boost for the offense. They have to address the offensive line if they’re going to have a chance next season.

If Bowers falls, I take him. Pick up the tackle from BYU or the tackle from Houston in the second round. Resign Peat. Boom!

Hot take: Saints trade back into the bottom of the first for either a second offensive lineman or the top remaining defensive lineman on their board.

I think we should trade down to 25 or so and Draft Bo Nix, run him out behind the current O Line, go 0-17, get the 1st pick in 2025 and Draft Shedeur Sanders.

We’re taking Jalyx Hunt from Houston Christian. You heard it hear first.

Mark me down as Loomis making a panic trade up with the Jets at 10 or the Broncos at 12 to take Amarius Mims, who he could have had at pick 14.

With his RAS score, I don’t think that would be a shocker at all if they traded back into the first to take him.
rt3, how about a NO SPOILERS in the thread title.

That special time of the year when everyone thinks their team follows Kiper's rankings

The melts will be extreme regardless of what happens today.
This team and its "leadership" has really put the fanbase on edge.

We are in a great position at 14 to pick off the top talent that falls.
If the QB/OL rush happens, then we may even get a shot at Rome
If the QB/OL/WR rush happens, then we will have a shot at an elite prospect at the following positions:
CB: Mitchell (maybe Arnold, depending on how you view him)
TE: Bowers
DI: Murphy (maybe Newton, depending on how you view him)
Edge: Latu, Turner
We need DI, Edge, and TE, and likely will need CB
Trading up for an OL just makes no sense, especially with the talent level in this draft. If teams over-draft the OL, then it's super +EV to wait. If teams don't over-draft the OL, then we will have a few options at 14. It's as simple as that.

This has the makings of a draft where one of Dallas Turner, Rome Odunze, Quinyon Mitchell, Brock Bowers or Byron Murphy fall into our laps and we take the 5th OT.

*5th OT...in a class without elite talent at OT

I don’t know what we do with Dallas Turner.
I think another coaching staff could use him correctly, but under Dumbass Allen he would just be another version of Stephon Anthony or Zach Baun.

This is what happens when you wind up in a cap situation like the Saints.
Old, untalented roster that is way too expensive, holes everywhere, don't address any of them in FA bc you can't.
And then you are backed into a corner with a MASSIVE, gaping hole at OL where you almost have no choice but take an OL more than once, early.
You can't just take more talented players that fall because you are in such a bad situation.

I think they learned their lesson with Baun to be honest. They FINALLY got him right and then he's gone.
I think they would just plug Turner into what they did with Baun last year.

Zero interest in Dallas Turner. I heard a story recently about how many off-field business interests he has. Good for him, but I’m not taking him. Marcus Davenport had off-field interests too.
Not fricking with that ever again
