Yes, the Dems have been communist trash for quite awhile. Go watch Trevor Loundan on Epoch tv. He has a special on who gets Dems elected in the House and Senate.
The Russians, Chinese and Cubans donate to pacts and the pacts help the Democrat candidates.

The Soviet Premier at the time was Gorbachev. He realized that the his country could not keep pace with the US economically and hence, militarily. Thus, he was eager to negotiate arms reduction. The Left at the time fellated Gorbachev and his wife endlessly (figuratively regarding his wife), proclaiming he was so much more intelligent and sophisticated than Reagan, who they painted as a dunce

Yes because the Russians were commies then.

The Dems and especially the press hated Reagan.

Yes.
Teddy Kennedy attempted to cut a deal with the Soviets to not cooperate with Reagan in hopes of beating him in 1984.
I think the main reason it didn’t happen is that the Soviets had multiple heads in a short period between Brezenov and Gorbachev, meaning little continuity of leadership.

They also seized on Reagan walking away from a treating circa 1985-1986 over SDI as a major mistake that would bring the world to war.
Not so much, as the USSR collapsed a few years later.

Bernie went on his honeymoon in the USSR.

No and yes. Democrats did not love Russia but definitely hated Reagan.
Russia (the USSR) was an authoritarian mess. Democrats were all in on Radio Free Europe and anything else that undermined the Soviet state. What they didn't agree with openly was Reagan's very aggressive policies toward Russia. The Democrats considered Reagan to be reckless, increasing the possibility of nuclear war.
Now we know that Reagan's aggressive approach to the USSR was the correct approach. The USSR spent so much on its own defense that its infrastructure crumbled, and the leadership could no longer sustain the empire.
But to your point, no, no one except the usual loonies on the fringe loved Russia.

The Dimocrats strongly opposed Reagan's anti-missile system saying it would lead to nuclear war with the Soviets. They derisively called it "Star Wars" and tried to block funding for research on this project.

Just before Reagan the word was 'detente.' Most Dems realized that communism wasn't a good standard of living but they admired the attempt and thought it could be perfected.
The Rector (sp) Study was amazing. It was a huge mailed in survey of almost every journalist in the U.S. It included TV, radio, newspapers. It was just opinions on a large list of topics.
One was: 'What political figure in the world do you admire most?' The top answer with 60% was Fidel Castro. Reagan was about 10%.
This cannot be duplicated today because journalists were embarrassed and know better than to tell the truth.

Early in his presidency, Reagan was fairly hard line against the Soviets. Things really peaked with Pershing missile deployments in Europe and the downing of the KAL flight.
Soviet leadership was, for the most part, paranoid about a sneak attack from the west. So much that they nearly overreacted during NATO's Able Archer exercise. The early 80s's were second to the the Cuban missile crisis in terms of going to the brink. Although, it's been wrote that the Yom Kippur War got pretty toasty.
The media pretty much loathed Reagan. There was a lot of pushback in the media with the decision to deploy intermediate range missiles in Europe and SDI (which was really a PSYOP to spook Moscow. Later in the 1980's it was constant bashing of Reagan during the Iran-Contra scandal.

Wrong!
Democrats supported anything that Reagan opposed, and opposed anything Reagan supported.
I never will forget the devastated look on Jimmy Carter’s face when the communist Sandinistas lost a fair election in Nicaragua!
The DNC/MSM Political Complex absolutely drooled over Gorbachev and the Politburo as rational men of peace opposing the crazy mad Reagan!

The technology needed to implement SDI was decades away. The type of system needed to defend against the Soviet's massive arsenal was simply unrealistic. Looking back, it was was a good head fake that caused Moscow to sink an enormous amount of money into defense. The result was an unsustainable economy and the collapse of the Soviet Union. My take, anyway.

The left loves any big government, tyrannical regime whether it’s nazis, communist or radical Islamic terrorist. They admire and aspire to duplicate any oppressive power they can implement to achieving their ends.

Reagan was constantly described by the leftist brain trust as a "B-list Actor", despite the fact that he was previously the Governor of California.
They especially hated him for turning the South Republican. That was the point when the so-called Reagan Democrats became "the deplorables", although they wouldn't be called that for another 30 years.
His shallacking of Mondale was one of the greatest arse-whippings in politics that I can recall.
