My family did just that for a family member when they were homeless during Katrina.
You think giving a family member a place to crash for a while is addressing the homeless problem?
I let my bother and his wife live with us for months following their home burning a few years ago. That’s not helping the homeless situation, that’s being family.
I’m sure plenty of folks here have done similar things.

Yall aint very christrian to not want to help the poor by funding shelters.
Speak for yourself. I donate to the food bank our church runs to help families in need and I donate to Jimmie Hale Mission in Bham. Unlike you who expects other people’s tax dollars to solve the problem, I actually do something with my own money. Take your pathetic mockery elsewhere.

I never said I wanted that. I said you can’t give people 0 options except jail for being homeless. We should fund shelters to give people the ability to get out of homelessness and then you can lock people up if they are sleeping on the street.

Round em up and let em hunt land mines in Ukraine.

No, no, you are talking about the outliers... there are countless programs that allow poor people to receive affordable housing and government food and welfare programs.
The absolute vast majority of these homeless people are doing so under their own choices they have made, and continue to make, over time. They are choosing drugs and alcohol over pursuit of being a positive contribution to society. They are choosing to run the streets, living day-to-day instead of seeking mental healthcare that would lessen their impulses and help them become positive contributors to society.
Don't get lost thinking all of these people are in their predicaments simply because "life was hard on them".
Life is hard on every fricking body. It is how we choose to overcome the hardships is what differentiates us from housed to homeless.
All that said, think of how much money our society would have at its disposal for managing the homeless crisis if only it weren't being thrown away daily at the political agenda called open borders?

I guess I was just going by the story linked which stated there were no shelters available for these homeless.

were no shelters available
Which is probably true.
Now, ask yourself the question, "why are there no shelters available?"
If you seek the answer to that question and be honest in your discovery - I think you will find that there ARE shelters, but they are being used for other purposes.

Why do you assume I don’t pay taxes? Why would you not want your taxes to take blight off the street? That’s wonderful that you give to charities and people in need btw

If homeless encampments are legal, then how can any zoning restriction or building code be legal?
Either a city can restrict what is built/exists or they can't.

So thankful that RBG decided to not follow Obama's advice to step down for the 2016 election, this SCOTUS has been paying dividends.

You know you’re free to send more in taxes than you actually owe, right? And no, I don’t want my taxes to go to giving handouts to anyone, including welfare of any form. Government should not be in the charity business. That’s not what it’s for.

We do but they choose not to agree to be sober and be in the shelter at a certain time. They can’t just come and go as they please so they’d rather sleep on the street where they can beg for money to shoot up.
You’re seeing this through a very naive viewpoint.

Give them an area to encamp away from the public or fund homeless shelters and then im ok with the law.
That's why local government is the best kind of government, and it's why the Supreme Court giving back the local government the power to work for the citizens in their neighborhood streets is a good thing.
It's actually not nearly as many who are just, "down on their luck" as we like to believe - not like it used to be. Around 2/3 of the homeless have life long drug and alcohol use disorders, and that includes ones in shelters who have to follow rules. It's likely far higher for the homeless encampments on the street where there are no rules.
The exception shouldn't dictate the rule for a municipality that wants to clean up it's streets. What we've been doing isn't working, maybe this will be a catalyst to enacting some real change.
If not, then the 2/3 who don't like it and won't sober up to go into a shelter can leave and go to one of the Marxist (i.e., democrat) sanctuary utopian hellscapes where they'll be welcomed with open arms.
Just because a few really do deserve sympathy doesn't mean something shouldn't be done at all. I don't necessarily like the idea of it just like you, but I also don't like the idea an ideological, Marxist bureaucrat with a robe on telling millions of taxpayers hundreds of miles away that they can't clean up their city streets and open air drug markets. There has to be alternatives to what lower courts have saddled local municipalities with, and ultimately the fault lies at the feet of the homeless drug addicts for putting a target on their own backs. After 10 years of shitting and pissing in the streets, heavy drug use, and multiple narcan doses, there comes a point where it's time for a homeless drug addict to get his shite together and get off the streets. I promise you the nanny state won't let him starve in the shelter or go without top shelf, free healthcare.

Your vote counts the same as mine.
That explains why this country is in the shape it's in.
Congrats I guess...

Idk just doesnt sit right with me locking people up for essentially being poor.

Have you seen homeless encampments? They are full of drugs, petty crime, violence, and rape. I hate the government and I hate laws, but goddamn these homeless generally have zero problems violating the social contract. Where were you when I had knives pulled on me, had my shite stolen, when crazy homeless become a threat to themselves and others?

How much time have you spent around homeless? I was homeless for 4 months in East Honolulu. Worked maintenance at a start up in Tampa for a year. They are insufferable lying thieving pieces of shite. Let them frick heads in your house. You won't like it.

You don’t want your taxes going to any government handouts?
So you are against Medicaid, Medicare, Unemployment benefits, Social Security, and all the other social safety nets that help pevent… homelessness. What about TOPS, government subsidies for farming, government subsidies for auto makers which keeps jobs in America?
