How Many of You Make Enough to "Live Comfortably "?

According to this article not many.

IMO the people who write these articles are so out of touch with most people who don't live in big cities in the US.
Do you really think it takes over $80k for a single person to "live comfortably" in Louisiana.

I live comfortably but I am a single man with zero dependents. I am also upset that I cannot attract a beautiful woman.
I have a great job. I make very good money. I have outstanding credit but I lack companionship. I am 56 years old and I really don’t want to live alone. I thought about suicide . It would break my family’s world if I died though.

Also "living comfortably" is completely different depending on the person and their lifestyle

What defines "living comfortably" varies widely from person to person, but they probably aren't too far off for the cities in LA. Obviously, you can live cheaper in rural areas or smaller towns.
I think a single person making 50k would struggle without roommates. We've just destroyed the value of the currency.

Damn man, I don't know your situation but hope you're putting yourself out there. There are tons of middle aged divercees out there that need companionship (i.e., money). Go bag one.

Depends on how comfortable we are talking. Right now I wouldn’t want to be single making 80k and trying to buy a house with these interests rates.
The more I make the more I spend and it’s been that way for 20 years??. Not sure I’ll ever be 100% comfortable.

Thats hard for me to believe but to each their own. Before I moved away from LA I made well below that and felt pretty comfortable. Owned a house, had enough to put in retirement, never balked at eating out, traveling and whatnot.
I know things have changed in the last few years but didn't know it was that bad.

One person’s “comfortable” can be another person’s miserable. In general, women are much more “uncomfortable” living what I would call a “spartan” lifestyle than men are.

I'm about ready to share costs at this point. Will take the best serious offer.

These data sets are really only good for understanding population economics and generating click bait articles. Applying state averages to your own life rarely works out because the cost of living swings pretty hard based on where you need to live to work and that’s where your income is generated.

My wife and I both make pretty good money and I don’t see how people are doing it.
Car insurance up $300 month
Home insurance up $200 month
Property Tax up $100 month
To buy my current home in BR with 20% down my mortgage would be double what mine is now.

quote:Yeah, at $52K. The next lowest was Arky at $79k so I’m guessing that the North Dakota amount is a typo and possibly actually should read $82k.
Must be very comfortable in North Dakota.

Thinking more about this and I'm interested. What exactly is your situation to not feel comfortable making 6 figures in LA?
Are you able to max out your retirement?
Do you come from a wealthy family so don't feel like you're living up?
Are you one of those people with an $800+ car note?
Do you eat out every night?
Just hard for me to comprehend.

Maybe you should look for a woman instead of a beautiful woman.

We make decent money, but are also the beneficiaries of having owned a home for a long time that we paid way less for than we would today, and refinanced it at 2.3%.
It's been so long since I've been single I'd have to figure out what my finances would look like. I'd be fine I'm almost positive. My wife would struggle.
