Imagine if we lived in a world where Electric Vehicles were the norm

“Imagine we lived in a world where all cars were electric and then along comes a new invention, the "Internal Combustion Engine"! Think how well they would sell:
A vehicle half the weight, half the price that will almost quarter the damage done to the road. A vehicle that can be refueled in 1/10th of the time and has a range of up to 4 times the distance in all weather conditions.
It does not rely on the environmentally damaging use of non-renewable rare earth elements to power it, and uses far less steel and
other materials. Just think how excited people would be for such technology”
Interesting perception but kinda true

Great post. Simple. Concise. Effective (to anyone possessing reason)

Are we getting all our roads fixed before its all electric?
Cause our roads are a worn down pot hole galore mess. So damage to the roads shouldnt be anywhere near the top of the list of selling points

A horse runs in all weather, on road, off road, hook multiple together for more power. Said someone back then probably.

Let’s think about this logically. If your roads are shitty now when the overwhelming majority of vehicles are ICE driven, what would logic say will be the effect on those same roads of replacing those vehicles with far heavier electric vehicles?

Oh, and our power grid stops crashing and works again. You can run your heater and A/C!

The difference between the weight of an ice vehicle and an electric vehicle is nothing compared to the difference between an electric vehicle and a loaded semi.
Also a model x weighs less than an F250. Do you wanna kick all f250s off the road also.
You act like you care about the impact EVs will have on the road but honestly you just hate EVs and weight is your dumb attempt to act like that is your concern.

Don't disagree on the surface. But it's obvious that ICE tech has improved and transformed over time from its infancy, which is why it is much better in its modern forms compared to current EV/battery tech
But certainly ev/battery has the potential to improve over time as well. But in no way does this mean I endorse govt funding/subsidization of this process.

Right.
You are comparing the prototypes with a product with 100 years development.
Don’t understand why so many of you are so frightened by EVs.

Excellent post.
I love ICE, but if what I've been reading about the latest breakthroughs and technological advances are true (particularly from BMW), things are going to change.
As it stands now, with EVs only accounting for about 1% of the vehicles in US roads today, infrastructure is still a nightmare and not anywhere near ready for prime time.
Some EV advocates flex pretty hard about how "easy" they are to utilize as a sole vehicle, but as the market as shown, people aren't buying into that (current) fairytale.

Its their new "abortion", "gay marriage", etc.
Political hacks find these wedge issues that don't really matter to get up in arms over.

“It will reduce our dependence on environmentally destructive lithium mines, and replace them with a simple mechanical pump that can be installed in a corn field.”

You will be able to fill your tank in 5 minutes instead of waiting 30 minutes to an hour for the battery to charge.

Hybrid is the solution to this debate.

"EV's, in it's current form, are inferior ICE's in several legitimate ways"
Smooth brains on the internet: "oMg Y r U sO sCaReD!!!?!!?!?!?!?!?!!"
If your go-to response is "why are you so frightened?", then you don't really have any sort of logical argument and are going off of emotion instead of reason.
