Found 4 baby raccoons on the porch of my camp,,,,eyes are closed,,,,,momma hasn’t shown up since we arrived at noon,,,,just brought them inside the camp, fed them with a syringe,,,,I’ve raised a baby skunk(after removing the glands). Basically like a baby kitten,,,,any tips on raising these babies ?

Had one before. Tough to start but once they get accustomed to you, they will follow you around like a good dog. If you need to get rid of one, let me know.

Half of them won’t make it but the ones that do will be cool to have around. Syringe feed puppy formula like you’re already doing. The males go apeshit once their nuts drop and will run off if they aren’t caged, all of them will tear shite up but if you can keep them in a shop or outside they’re intelligent and will bond with you. One of those pets where if someone has spent the time with them they swear by them.

My neighbor and I each had one. We raised them the same way you are doing. Mine was named Leroy and his was named Tyrone. We had to release them at a year old.

Exactly right….they are cool animals, but get grouchy when they get mature.

Coons? Momma used to just sweep them off the front porch!

Raised a male. Named him Rosco. He was mean as sh#t. They are like a miniature bear. He finally took off one night when he reached about 2. Guess he felt the need to breed.

We’ve had several. Fun till about one year old. She would come inside and play then want to go back out!

I’ll take one for the kids to raise if you want to get rid of one.

And she's gonna be pissed! My dad and I had one chase us out of the North Light at Chandeleur all the way back to the boat. We had climbed up the stairs and was about to step into the lighthouse we she came charging at us.
Guess she thought we were coming for her babies. Only thing that kept her off of us was our floundering gigs.

Raising small coons to keep them alive is one thing but keeping them as pets is another. They aren't domesticated.

I raised some as a kid. Males go feral after about a year. Females may stay tame, but generally go feral after two years.
Someone gave me a female about 15 years ago. Brought it to a vet to check out. He warned me about a worm that they can carry. Can be infected by bare feet and fecal matter or ingestion. We Had little kids at the time. Did the research, it’s rare, but real. Scared the hell out of me and I gave it away.
“The raccoon roundworm, Baylisascaris procyonis, is increasingly recognized as a cause of zoonotic visceral, ocular, and neural larva migrans and, in particular, of devastating encephalitis in young children. Exposure occurs mainly due to raccoon feces, where large numbers of infective eggs may be accidentally ingested or absorbed through the skin.”

Buddy of mine had a pet coon. One day he was in the driveway with his son and the coon was over in the bushes playing. These Jehovah’s Witness ladies came up and gave him some pamphlets. His son was small and was standing behind him the whole time and when the ladies started walking off the coon walked out of the bushes and his son hollered scram coon. And those little black ladies looked back over their shoulders and started walking away really fast.

I know a girl who has had a pet raccoon for years. The thing loves her and actually is protective of her. Never went feral
