I will never understand why someone who performs for general audiences would think it makes sense to go on stage and basically insult half of them. Audiences really are pretty flexible. I enjoy a great many artists who I know are liberal in their own views. Having your audience pay for tickets though and then going on stage to insult them? Why?
This. Sing Jack and Diane and Crumbling Down and shut the hell uo.

That makes no sense, lol. Surely it was, "Honey, I would just as soon keep my personal opinions to myself. I’m just an entertainer.” That doesn't make much literal sense, either, but at least it matches a colloquialism.

He threw a hissy fit and walked off stage. He was wrong.

I'm not sure what is more ironic, John Cougar Melloncamp singing about fighting authority or Don Henley singing about Deadhead stickers on Cadillacs.

The video started after that part.
That guy has always been insufferable about his political views, however. I have no doubt he was being a giant bore.

This is a perfect example.
This poster labels Mellencamp a "prick" for relating a story about his Nana, lionizes the rude heckler and describes as "sheeple" the members of the audience who disapproved of the heckler's boorish behavior.

O.k., I fell for it this time myself (I usually don't).
All I can say in my defense is that this is SUCH a plausible accusation given that guy's history that it overcame the probability that someone here accused a celebrity of supporting Biden when the truth had nothing to do with that.
You're right; I should have known better.
But like I say, Mellencamp has been an insufferable political shill since I was in high school and I'm retired now. It was like hearing a story that Michael Jordan dunked a basketball...it just never occurred to me to doubt it.
EDIT: Final thought: Just because the particular story that the heckler interrupted had nothing to do with Biden doesn't mean he didn't campaign for him or make comments about him or tell political stories earlier in the show.
The video may have just been someone calling him out for talking too much in general.
Even if not, what a dick to walk out on a show attended by no telling how many fans because one guy interrupted you.

Honestly, Mellencamp should have just had his bouncer remove the heckler and then continued the show for everyone else.

It was good to see him called out. And like a puss he left the stage. What an efsticik.

Ed Zachary.
That's what pretty much any other performer in the world I have ever seen would have done.

Heckler?
Music performer got called out because audience member wanted him to play music.
Nobody paid to hear John lecture about how great Marxism is. If he wants to speak politics, fine. But it’s not what the audience came to hear.

No, he should have STFU and played music. At least he didn't leap off the stage and beat the guy up like Mike Ness did to a Trump supporter.

Ah, but see there’s more context here.
Was the heckling because of politics? Not on the surface.
But was the heckling unwarranted? I read a bunch of his audience reviews about this tour. First thing that happens is they play a 30 minute montage of old movies, which aggravated every reviewer that I read. Then he gets to a point in the show where he berates the audience for not being quiet. I mean every single show, so it’s not genuine, it’s just him being an arse. There were several points in the show where he rambled on about stuff (including politics) which again, got people riled up. Again, this same scenario played out in pretty much every review in every city. So whether the heckler is right or wrong, Mellencamp’s pretty much provoking it. I don’t mind hearing a story or two at a show, but to keep doing it when he knows full well why people came to see him? He’s a massive a-hole.

It was a small-venue acoustic show, which are always very informal. Mellencamp was telling a story about his grandmother, not Marx, and the heckler interrupted him. It was rather rude.

You can call Bruce Springsteen a lot of things, but "one hit wonder" isn't one of them.
