Just realized that Captain Flint and John Silver were from Treasue Island. Yet Vane, Hornigold and Anne are based on real pirates yet the timeline has been changed.

And Silver's line in one of the episodes about "I have no desire to be a pirate" or whatever is hilarious because of that since the LJS character is one of the more famous pirates in history.

Currently reading Treasure Island because of this series. My son and co-worker are now watching (& enjoying) also.

In a show full of badass moments, this was one of my favorites.

Also Rackham and Ned Low. More to come in some upcoming episodes as well.

In my episode recaps I was going to post some links about Ned Low. There's not a ton known about him but apparently in real life he was an absolute mad man.

Ditto. Got like 20 pages left.

Was telling my wife about the board watching this together and she just started cracking up laughing. Said it's our own little book club but for TV I really didn't have a reply to that.

So this is my first watch of the series and I just finished S2 Ep3. What I am puzzled with is why Flint is so worried about Vane in the fort? Go get the god damn gold and have allies in the town for you to secure passage back when it is time. The time to get the gold is running out so that seems to be the problem to solve first.

Anywho it was also funny while watching season 1 my buddy who had seen the show asked me at the time who my favorite characters were. I told him Billy and Gates and then they were gone soon after

It always bugs me how they pronounce "lieutenant." LEFTenant? GTFO.

Right And ma'am. MUM.

Billy! Man, what a way to torture/kill someone. Wrap them in leather and tie them on the beach in the sun, and continuously pour water on it so the sun shrinks the leather until is squeezes so hard your ribs crumble and puncture organs and shite. Yikes.

Sometimes I think I'm an old soul and that I was born in the wrong time, but then you find out stuff like this was real and I'm like "yea I guess just having a heated steering wheel and not cooled isn't too bad."

quote:

Man I forgot how annoying it was that Vane now grunt-whispers all of his lines. I forgot how bad that gets in S2.

I don't know what else he was in so I wasn't sure how far off this was from his regular voice. It's gotta be pretty far off. It's like Littlefinger in GoT, his voice got deeper and deeper every season until he was basically Batman voice.

quote:

Flint's whole plan to retake his captaincy is great. He played Dufresne like a fiddle,

So my notes are basically the same as yours on these three episodes. I had typed out that Flint played Dufresne like a puppet. I think fiddle is probably the better way of putting it.

quote:

I wish he could've hung around longer, but I guess he didn't have he head for it.

Not the time to lose one's head.

That's not a way to get ahead in life.

It's a shame he wasn't more headstrong.

quote:

The whole Abigail Ashe thing is strange. So she's the daughter of a Carolina governor, and he has a reward of $250,000. But isn't the Urca gold worth like $5 million? If so, it seems odd that Vane is trying to play it against the gold.

Having a brain fart, does Vane know of the Urca gold at this point?

They wouldn't be able to sail their boat into the harbor safely, because the fort could blast them to pieces if the person occupying it was so inclined.

Potentially not, but I thought I remembered him saying something to the likes of “what’s to say I don’t sink Flint’s ship and all the gold to the bottom of the bay?” when he was talking to Eleanor. I may be misremembering.

Seems like they would have more people inclined to get that gold into the harbor than Vane could resist. Even the threat right now of him sinking all the ships currently in the harbor, just have them, you know, leave or something

Minor gripe so not dying over this

I can't wait until we get to the very end of the series to get the average OT Baw take.

Let's just say I think the biggest fans of this series might have some latent tendencies.

I was...whelmed.

I think I know what you're referring to and it definitely caught me off guard. I'm not sure where that came from but of course right now we can't talk about it

I thought it ended great and about as good as it could have. If I get what you're talking about, that didn't bother me much at all really.

Oh look, Eleanor fricks Vane yet again. Proving that she makes some of the worst decisions in Nassau. I realize that she cares for him and is also using that to play him a bit at times, but it's still just bad business. I guess pussy really is undefeated though.

one thing that i will say on this show... Eleanor bangs. she is not banged.
