Federal regulators are investigating a whistleblower's claims about flaws in the assembly of Boeing's 787 Dreamliner.
Longtime Boeing engineer Sam Salehpour went public Tuesday with claims that he observed problems with how parts of the plane's fuselage were fastened together. Salehpour warns that production "shortcuts" could significantly shorten the lifespan of the plane, eventually causing the fuselage to fall apart in mid-flight.

Boeing immediately pushed back.
"These claims about the structural integrity of the 787 are inaccurate and do not represent the comprehensive work Boeing has done to ensure the quality and long-term safety of the aircraft," Boeing spokeswoman Jessica Kowal said in a statement. "We are fully confident in the 787 Dreamliner."

That is my biggest fear is flying and the plane just breaks apart over water

As opposed to breaking apart over land?

Me too. That plummet to the ground would be nightmarish. Hopefully, you'd just lose consciousness at some point. Thankfully, air travel is still ridiculously safe and of the accidents that happen, the overwhelming majority aren't happening due to the plane breaking apart.

COULD
with the oldest you are looking at 20-30k take off and landings EACH year per plane since brought into service in 2011-2012.
I guess they will start falling out of the sky next chicken little

I’d rather land in the water than on the ground.

A nosedive straight into the ground wouldn’t be as bad.

It would suck either way but that first picture with the pilots would be my worst nightmare and if I did survive the impact, I would probably drown….

Boeing: "Well it hasn't happened, yet!"

From altitude there really isn’t any differences, water might as well be dirt. Everyone dies either way.
I guess over land there is a better chance of recovering your remains, so there’s that.

Good gawd, some NPC’s in here believe everything.
Why is this “whistleblower” coming out now?
787 has had teething issues, but it’s an incredible aircraft & most popular wide-body.

Flew on a 787 Dreamliner from Maui to Dallas last week
Was the smoothest most pleasant flight I have ever been on
Literally incredible

Not me. There’s a minuscule chance I wouldn’t die on impact and would survive briefly with every bone in my body broken while I drowned.

Who knew Boeing’s PR team was astroturfing on the OT?
Your bonuses will be reflected on your next paycheck, ladies.

You're saying that because Boeing has a lady in their PR department is why their airplanes are experiencing mechanical issues?
