Buuuut profit margins at your average restaurant are in the neighborhood of 4%. My wife was a regional director for a national chain of casual sit down restaurants and they were very happy if a store would do 6-7%. So when you increase labor costs (your biggest expense) by 25%, there are a lot of hard decisions to make just to stay profitable. Shutting down is absolutely on the table. Of course, everyone else here understands that. And TBoy won’t find the gotcha article he’s searching for.

I remember when minimum wage was $4.25...and that was in 1995. Not too long ago.
And then the wars started and massive inflation and well everyone knows the story.
California bloomed off of under the table cheap illegal immigrant labor.
That's what they wanted...not families and salaries to buy homes. Companies just wanted worker bees for free. Now EVERYTHING will be under the table, because illegal immigrants can't complain. The minimum wage law in California is just shutting down legit businesses and especially Mom and Pop stores while not affecting Corporate Ag, etc.
