question for the floor: how high of a sales tax would you be willing to take if it meant no income and property taxes?

Whatever it takes to make up the deficit.
Sales taxes force everybody to pay their fair share

EBR is already at 9.5 or 10%, this highest in the nation for a city of its population size. So no more than that.

I'd pay a 20% sales/consumption tax if it meant ALL other taxes go away. Level the playing field for everybody. An illegal immigrant buying a candy bar, Trump buying a new private jet, or Musk buying Twitter. 20% tax on the transactions.

Wouldn't need to increase much, because everyone pays consumption taxes.

I’d happily do 20% sales tax to get rid of income tax with a trivial increase to property tax.

We already have high sales tax. I can choose not to pay it by not buying more shite than I already do when it gets raised.

“We have got to find a way to restrain excessive government spending at the state and local level,” he said. “The sales tax is high in Louisiana … but really the focus should be on the burdensome income tax.”
Actually think we have had as high as 11% in areas.

The research shows that as of Jan. 1, Louisiana’s state sales tax of 4.45% ranks 38th from the top. But when that figure is added to the average local tax rate of 5.10%, the state’s 9.55% combined rate becomes the highest among 50 states and the District of Columbia.

Wouldn’t matter. I’d just take my Washington parish arse to Columbia for groceries.

Wouldn’t it be better to start with a better question- How much would sales tax need to go up to be revenue neutral with an abolishment of state income and property tax?
Then we can contemplate other usage fees or needless expenses that we can start to frick with to lower the sales tax rate.

Get too high and people will travel out of state for many large purchases
