This is such a different dynamic than male players going to the NBA. They will make more money if they stay through NIL. It only makes sense to stay and take another run at this.
Women’s college basketball is soaring right now because players stay and you can actually follow great players and teams over years. That’s how men’s college basketball used to be and how college football still is, to an extent.
They SHOULD stay. Will they? Depends on what they want, I guess.
But, who knows anyone in the WNBA right now? Everyone knows Caitlyn Clark and Angel Reese and South Carolina’s undefeated team and it goes on and on.

HVL WILL NOT make a WNBA roster. She's too short to be a SG and too slow with poor dribbling to be a PG. She lacks court vision and can't handle the ball when pressured. HVL will be playing overseas when she leaves LSU.
HVL couldn't handle being pressured and was a liability on defense. I think her best option would be to leave and start her career overseas. I just don't think LSU would be best served by HVL returning.

Agree with everything you said except the court vision part. I think she makes some pretty good passes just flicking the ball off the dribble.

As I said in another post, her "liability on defense" depended on the opponent. For sure, if you had a quick PG like the MTSU one, she had big issues stopping the drive. But not every point guard is that skilled so it depends on the team. If the PG was more of a passer, I remember her intercepting quite a few passes. Also, if a normally skilled PG shoots more than most PG, she was fine there too. But yeah, you have a quick PG who loves the drive and she needs help defense then. If I was the coach at LSU, I would take her back in a second for one last year.

Absolutely!

I was hoping Willliams would have scored more since we heard so much about her. Maybe it was because she was a freshman to expect more.

Agreed. MK doesn’t even seem to play within the offense. Pass her the ball, she jacks it up..no way can she run the point lol

Yes it was. The NCAA tourneys were cancelled in March 2020 but the free eligibility year was for the 2020-21 academic year.

HVL admitted, pre season, to being almost obsessive over her standing in the player rankings. To me, that means she's serious about playing at the next level. Just don't see her present game transferring to the WNBA; I can see her going to play in Europe.

I think HVL transfers elsewhere.
Entirely possible if she elects to play more of year of college, if LSU brings in a PG from the portal Hailey is not starting over Flaujae or Williams. So its a decision she will have to make, come back for college one more year or head to Europe.

I think Reese is gone.
I hope she comes back. Money isn't the issue its her long term success if she leaves now.... I think she can make a roster but she is in for a rude awakening if she doesn't develop her offense more. And Angel would need both a consistent small jumper and she has to develop more post moves near the rim. Reese is fantastic but she is not going to survive just cleaning up half her own misses in the W, thats never going to happen. The WNBA is all about offense and efficiency. Thats why I personally think if Reese was smart, she would go all out this offseason to focus on developing her game with her midrange, footwork (not like last summer), develop the things needed for the next level to succeed. On top of that, the WNBA expands next year so her coming back not only plays herself into a better spot but the WNBA will draft/take in more people. To me that seems more logical. But maybe Reese doesn't want to deal with school stuff anymore? I dont know everyone has their reasons

Not sure how many times this needs to be said, but the NIL deals don't necessarily go away once they leave college.

They need a true point guard and a big center that can play right away and not have to develop. South Carolina's center totally alters the game plans of opposing teams because she can play defense and score. We don't have a true point guard or a "big" right now that's ready to play at an elite level and to win a NC you need to have both.

They absolutely don't just go away. However, I could see how the interest and marketability could be much less for a wnba player over a superstar in college.
Massive difference. Now someone like Clark is going to be highly in demand no matter what, but some of the other college stars will probably have better NIL deals in college. Way more college interest.

I hope so.
If Mulkey can recruit a true point guard to free HVL to roam for shots, this duo, with Flau’jae, can win it all.

Of course a few may be making a decent amount on the side but most money is tied directly to boosters who want these athletes at their college.
Also, the average American couldn’t name 5 players in the WNBA. This little bump in women’s basketball viewership is solely due to the generational talent Caitlyn Clark.

The HVL PG "experiment" was horrible. Many said early on it wouldn't work and if it continued LSU would suffer.
HVL is tenacious and gives maximum effort on defense, however she's just too slow in her lateral movement. She has had a few games where she's gotten into the passing lanes for steals but so has Morrow, Reese, and Johnson. That's more of a by-product of the way LSU "as a team" plays defense and less to do with HVL's individual ability on D. HVL was too slow on D and couldn't dribble around her defenders on offense. She had plenty of TO's trying to make a pass from far beyond the arc because she couldn't handle the up-front pressure and was unable to take her defender off the dribble. It's fair to be of the opinion you take her back if she wants to return. However, you're basing that off her production BEFORE she came to LSU. Her production this season was disappointing. She had no idea when to facilitate vs when to score. She was "lost" all season, albeit learning to play PG.
